It's an exciting time to be a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even with the franchise's recent box office shortcomings, it's beginning to lay the groundwork for a monumental comeback with the release of Deadpool and Wolverine, which has the fans' excitement at a level which we haven't seen since Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. That's mostly down to the fact that the film will welcome both its titular characters into the MCU for the first time ever.

This is what the Multiverse Saga is all about, as the movie will bring two of the biggest characters from the Fox X-Men universe together in a showdown fans have been longing to see for years, especially as it will reunite Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Potentially having them cross over with some MCU characters is just the icing on the cake.

On that note, a new tease has suggested that we're finally going to see a crossover fans have been wanting to see in live-action for years in the upcoming movie.

Wolverine and Hulk might square off in new Deadpool 3 rumor

Marvel insider Alex Perez, a.k.a. AlexFromCC, has sent the internet into meltdown with a report that suggests we could see Wolverine square off against long-time comic book rival Hulk in Deadpool and Wolverine. Taking to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, the scooper shared a tweet featuring two GIFs: One of which is Wolverine in battle stance from the film, quoting his famous "Let's F****** Go!" line, and the other of the Incredible Hulk (from a scene in Thor: Ragnarok where he too is about to charge into battle).

Adding fuel to the fire, he responded to a fan who argued against the idea of Hulk appearing in the film with a GIF of Henry Cavill. Now, this sent the fans into an even bigger meltdown because of the symbolism of the Henry Cavill GIF, as it might have confirmed an earlier rumor about the actor's possible appearance in the film, too.

A number of months ago, fellow Marvel scooper CanWeGetSomeToast reported that Henry Cavill would make his MCU debut as an alternate version of Wolverine, as a nod to all of the fans who had fan-casted him in the role over the years. While he isn't reportedly expected to have a big role, it would be interesting if he were the one who went up against the Hulk. And it would be pretty darn epic to see him going up against an alternate version of the Hulk, too, especially since that character has become so important to the MCU over the years.

If Cavill does appear and square off against the Hulk, this would likely be a neat little way for Marvel to have their cake and eat it. Fans wouldn't be familiar with either version of the character but having an actor with Cavill's star power alongside an MCU A-lister like Mark Ruffalo's Hulk (although he hasn't been confirmed for the film either) would ensure that it would be an incredibly memorable moment in a movie that will no doubt be full of them. It would also allow for any possible outcome while Jackman's Wolverine could carry on with the primary story of the movie instead.

Wolverine vs. Hulk could be a moment for Marvel

The Hulk and Wolverine are, of course, two of the greatest heroes in Marvel Comics, but they are longtime foes as well. Given their incredible levels of strength and durability, fans always relish the opportunity to see them battle one another to see who can come out on top. It's always a thrill-ride of a battle, too, which is among the many reasons that audiences have been longing to see it take place on the silver screen in live-action.

It's obviously important to take this rumor with a pinch of salt because it hasn't been officially confirmed by Marvel, Henry Cavill's apparent cameo hasn't been officially teased either, and up until now it had been thought that the Hulk wouldn't be appearing in the movie. That said, given this scooper's reliability, how long the Cavill rumor has been circulating (and the fact that it has been reported by multiple scoopers), it sounds like there could be a real possibility of this one coming to fruition. And by doing so, it could give the fans something that they have been longing to see.

Sure, it might not be Hugh Jackman's Wolverine taking on the Hulk, but he will have his hands full battling longtime foe Sabretooth (and, well, potentially saving the multiverse too) and there is always the chance the real thing could happen at some point too. That is, after all, one of the most beautiful aspects of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Multiverse Saga.
