Deadpool and Wolverine may adapt one of Marvel's most tragic storylines

Deadpool and Wolverine may bring the tragic story of Old Man Logan to the screen. There are multiple hints to the comic book in the trailer and here they are. But, beware, the story will break the hearts of every viewer.

During the Deadpool and Wolverine trailer, Mr. Paradox (played by Matthew Macfadyen) said the Wolverine from that universe let down his entire world. That means this isn’t Logan from the 20th Century Fox universe, who starred in almost all of the X-Men movies. Charles Xavier mentioned during Logan that he killed the mutants from that reality. There’s a chance that Wolverine could have made things worse after, but that’s unlikely. Logan seemed frustrated by everyone else; if he had caused the world’s problems, he would have admitted it even if he was partly responsible.

If Wolverine messed things up in his universe, one of the options comes from Marvel Comics. During Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan, Wolverine was tricked into killing the X-Men. After that, he spent years never fighting again. Meanwhile, the rest of the world turned into a wasteland. This story could explain why Logan let everyone down and why no one wanted him around.

Wolverine is one of the greatest heroes in the Marvel Comics universe. That’s not an exaggeration. He’s helped the Avengers and the X-Men keep the universe going. If Logan gave up in this world, everyone would hate him. He was their last hope and he quit. He didn't fail, he gave up. There’s a distinct difference and the world would notice. That would explain why even a bartender wouldn’t want him there.

Another hint that we're adapting Old Man Logan comes from Cassandra Nova’s base, who appears to be residing in the hollowed-out skull of a giant Scott Lang (you can see it at the 1:51 second mark of the trailer). In the Wasteland featured in the storyline, there was a stretch of road called Pym Falls. Hank Pym (Giant Man/Ant-Man) was eaten by Moloids. Rather than move him, he became a reminder of Red Skull’s triumph. It also desecrates everything the Avengers once were. Don't be shocked if Cassandra Nova's the one who messed with Logan's head in this universe.

Marvel Studios often adapts storylines from the comics in their movies and shows. Things change to fit the platform, but many of the elements remain. This keeps a connection to the source material. If this is Old Man Logan, the audience watching will be devastated. Seeing Wolverine kill the people he loved would break everyone’s heart especially if it looks like he’s fighting villains and we see the aftermath. If you thought Logan was heartbreaking, you haven't seen anything yet.
