Forget Henry Cavill, David Corenswet’s Superman is absolute perfection
By Cody Schultz
I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but Henry Cavill, who? That about summed up my initial reaction to DC’s first look at David Corenswet’s Superman, a first look that came unexpectedly on May 6 just in time to break the internet.
While I’m not entirely sold on the backdrop and what is going on in Metropolis behind him, Corenswet’s Superman suit is absolute perfection and damn does he look good in the new take on Superman’s iconic suit! Hey, don’t take my word for it, check out the first-look photo below for yourself:
The suit welcomes a return to the more standard Superman suit and is quite reminiscent of the various suits Tyler Hoechlin has donned playing Superman in The CW’s Superman and Lois, which is high praise as the show has done a brilliant job of giving us some of the best on-screen adaptations of the Superman suit that we’ve ever seen. While some have commented that the suit looks a bit loose in place, that’s likely due to the framing of the photo and we’re not worried at all about Corenswet being able to fill out the suit as he’s put in the work to attain Superman’s otherworldly build.
While DCEU fans have been quick to roast the suit for any possible flaws they can find, I have to admit that the reveal has me even more excited to see what James Gunn and his team achieve with the film. The suit is already giving a brighter tone which is what fans are hoping to see with Superman as we don’t need another dark and brooding take on the character.
The shot gives away just enough to make us even more intrigued and excited for the moment when we’ll get our first look at the suit in action. Corenswet is the true embodiment of the Man of Steel and has perfectly captured his essence in the first look – please note the signature Superman hair curl and that signature chiseled jawline.
There is no denying that Gunn has a clear vision and its one we cannot wait to see realized on the screen when Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025!
