2. Deadpool

I went back and forth about including Deadpool on the list because it's not a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, but it's about to be. That MCU tie-in is right around the corner in Deadpool & Wolverine! Phase 5, y'all!

Anyway, Deadpool is one of my favorite Marvel movies. It's truly so funny, and Ryan Reynolds just crushes this role. It's just non-stop jokes. I don't remember another Marvel movie with just this unhinged energy that Deadpool has, but that's what makes it so funny. Wade Wilson / Deadpool has a line and joke for every situation.

Deadpool tells the story of Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), a mercenary diagnosed with cancer after meeting the love of his life, Vanessa (Morena Baccarin). Wade is approached to take part in a new clinical trial to make him healthy again, which he jumps at, but it leaves him basically unkillable and grotesque. Deadpool seeks revenge on those who made him this way, becoming a hero of sorts in the process.

In addition to all the comedy, this movie has a surprising amount of heart. It's similar to Guardians of the Galaxy in that way. Like, we're all laughing, and then, wait, what? Why am I crying? It's that perfect balance of comedy and drama that comes through on-screen to make something magical.

Watch Deadpool & Wolverine in theaters on July 26, 2024. It's the only MCU movie coming in 2024.
