Good news, God of War and Horizon fans
PlayStation, one of the big three heavy hitters of the gaming industry, has been recently trying to make a breakthrough in the live-action cinematography genre. It all started with the creation of the Uncharted movie, followed by a flawless The Last of Us TV show, and topped up with a fantastic Gran-Turismo project. However, as we now know, that was only the beginning.
Back in 2022, Sony announced their plans to adapt many of its PlayStation video games into movies and TV shows. Those plans involved some of gaming's most beloved series such as Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, and Horizon. Now, thanks to Sony's CES 2024 press conference we have some exciting updates regarding two of those adaptations.
Things are moving along nicely in PlayStation Productions, the company responsible for adapting Sony's iconic video game franchises into live-action projects. Both the God of War and Horizon TV series are now officially being written, and each one of them will have a different home. God of War will be released on Amazon Prime Video while Horizon 2047 will be distributed by Netflix.
It's an exciting time to be a fan of either (or better yet; both) of those franchises. Even if Sony started with the left foot by creating a not-so-great adaptation of the Uncharted games, its work on The Last of Us and Grand Turismo definitely lifts our hopes for what the future might hold. Besides, let's not forget the Twisted Metal TV series also found enough success to guarantee a second season.
We can't wait to see if the God of War and Horizon series break the spell of the video game adaptation course, or fall right into it. Seeing as writing just started, we're far from getting an official release date. However, whenever that happens, we'll make sure to keep you updated right here on Bam! Smack! Pow!
