Previously, on X-Men ‘97, Earth’s Mightiest Mutants were fighting two wars at once. Jean, Storm, Forge, Morph, Cable, and Beast took on Bastion and Mr. Sinister. The fight didn’t go well. Bastion prevented Morph and Beast from disabling his powers. Meanwhile, Jean was taken out by Cable. Nathan had a piece of Sinister in him since he was a baby. That was enough for Sinister to control Cable.

Meanwhile, Cyclops, Professor X, Nightcrawler, and Jubilee journeyed to Avalon to persuade Magneto to reverse the effects of his worldwide EMP (as seen in episode 8). Having failed, Wolverine tried to kill the Master of Magnetism. Instead, Erik retaliated by ripping the metal off Wolverine’s bones.

Now, we turn our attention to the season finale of the Disney Plus series, and given everything that has happened in the season so far already, we're expecting a shocking one to close out the show's debut run.

As we mentioned, this is the season 1 finale of X-Men '97. All of the major stories in play that led up to this moment will no doubt be explored in the major episode. And fans should prepare themselves for a big one, as the episode's synopsis teases that big things are on the horizon:

The season finale of X-Men ‘97 will be epic. The series has already given viewers the tragedy of Genosha, Storm losing her powers, and Wolverine’s metal ripped off his bones. The next step is likely Onslaught. However, that’s because it happened that way in the comics. There’s no guarantee it’ll be the same on the show. Nevertheless, it’s a good guess. 

The one thing this writer can guarantee is that things will get worse for the X-Men. There’s no way mutants come out of this looking good. Despite Bastion being the cause of everything, the world’s governments won't see it that way. The X-Men defeating Magento won’t matter. The focus will be on Magento sending them back into the Stone Age.
