James Gunn's previous Superman update hints filming might be nearly over now
As per Deadline, writer-director James Gunn provided an update on his film Superman on July 17, announcing filming had wrapped in Cleveland, Ohio, while also revealing that “[they’re] getting close.”
DC Studios head honcho went to social media via Threads (a component to Instagram) to express his gratitude to the city.
Gunn went on through subsequent posts on Threads, thanking the “background actors," which reminded him of why he loves making movies. He clarified in a letter posted through the same platform that while production has wrapped for the city of Cleveland, there are still more weeks of shooting to go for the film. He said:
"We are not done shooting. Still a couple weeks left. Just done shooting in Cleveland. And yeah, it’s a long shoot... but we’re getting close!!"
- Gunn
Superman should be done filming in a week or two!
Considering Gunn made this announcement on July 17, which was one week ago exactly, we're anticipating that means filming for the movie could be completed as early as one week from today, on July 31. Gunn's mention of "a couple weeks" signals there shouldn't be more than two weeks from his update, though to be safe we could anticipate production to conclude in early August. That's awesome news for DC fans like us who have been waiting for more sneak peeks at his Superman.
Filming began on February 29, 2024, meaning the DCU film has been in production for almost five months. It will be a while before we can expect a trailer for Superman (formerly titled Superman: Legacy) but this is a big step for the first film’s chapter within the DCU. Hopefully, once they are done with production, Gunn might share a behind-the-scenes photo or two to celebrate. Fingers crossed!
Starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, María Gabriela de Faría, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Sean Gunn, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Isabel Merced, and Nathan Fillion, Superman is set to land in theaters July 11, 2025. Mark your calendars because that's less than a year away now!
