James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe is beginning to come to fruition. From the moment that DC Studios was launched by Warner Bros. Discovery, the old DC Extended Universe began to wind down. That brought with it an understandable feeling of disappointment for fans who enjoyed the movies and these versions of the characters, but as the shared universe of DC superheroes had been very hit and miss since the beginning, it was also somewhat understandable that it needed to be rebooted.

Gunn is currently hard at work on rebooting it, with animated series Creature Commandos premiering on Max this year, and the live-action launch, his own Superman movie, currently in production. That movie will premiere in theaters next year and the year after that will come spinoff Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. According to a new report, it might do the unthinkable and bring back a DCEU star (albeit in a very different role).

Jason Momoa rumored to return to DC in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Jason Momoa could appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. In this most recent report, he claims that there is a role in the upcoming DC Universe movie that has them interested in the Game of Thrones star and that he thinks "it sounds a lot like Lobo".

This would obviously be a major development for Momoa's relationship with DC. The actor is perhaps best known for portraying Aquaman in the DCEU, appearing in Justice League, Aquaman, Zack Snyder's Justice League, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Interestingly enough, the first Aquaman movie was the most successful DC movie of all time, while the second was the final chapter in the DCEU franchise (and performed moderately better than expectations). It wasn't clear if - or when - Momoa would return in the future.

In the midst of all the cancellations and reshuffling going on at DC Studios, Variety confirmed that none of the actors from the previous movies would return in the new franchise, but that was in regards to whether they would reprise their roles or not. For the fact is that, ever since these reports first surfaced, there were rumors of Momoa joining the new franchise in the role of Lobo - rumors that were not denied by Gunn or Safran.

Lobo would be an entirely different character for the actor, but he's one that fans already think he would be perfect for. He made Aquaman his own, acing his own original interpretation, but Lobo is a role that fans have been longing for him to play, both because of his resemblance to the character and how effortlessly badass he is.

Introduced in DC Comics back in summer 1983, Lobo is an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter with quite the history with Kryptonians. Over the years, he became a bit of an unexpected fan-favorite, appearing in his own solo stories and even making his own live-action debut in Syfy's Krypton. That almost led to a spinoff for the character, with actor Emmet J. Scanlan expected to reprise the role, but the network opted against it after cancelling Krypton.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow stars House of the Dragon breakout Milly Alcock as the Girl of Steel and is currently set for release on June 26, 2026. Needless to say Momoa would make an excellent choice for Lobo, and it would be awesome to see him return to the world of DC Comics to make some more history so soon after already making history as Aquaman.

It's always important to take rumors with a pinch of salt, but taking the previous Lobo rumors, and the character's history with Kryptonians into account, we wouldn't be too surprised if this one panned out to be true.
