Marvel bringing back two former MCU stars in Vision Quest
The impact of WandaVision continues to be felt three years after its arrival. The Marvel Cinematic Universe series brought Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany's respective characters into the spotlight, giving Wanda Maximoff and Vision the focus that they just never had in the previous MCU movies. It was also a game-changer for the franchise.
Wanda evolved into the Scarlet Witch and continued her story through Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while Vision was resurrected as the White Vision (after his death in Avengers: Infinity War) and, after a run-in with the magically-resurrected Westview Vision, regained all of his memories. The WandaVision stories continue beyond the original Disney Plus series, as Agatha All Along brings back Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness and Vision Quest will bring back Paul Bettany as the White Vision.
The first of those two spinoffs is streaming right now, while the second is gearing up for production in the near-future. And now, a new report details that itthe second spinoff will be bringing back some familiar faces - or, well, voices - to the MCU.
James D'Arcy and Kerry Condon to reportedly appear in Vision Quest
According to Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Kerry Condon and James D'Arcy will return to the Marvel Studios franchise and reprise their MCU roles in Disney Plus' upcoming Vision Quest series.
Condon voiced the AI known as F.R.I.D.A.Y. that Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, used after Avengers: Age of Ultron. She became a regular of his adventures, guiding him in his ear with directions and updates about the status of the armor, which was a tall task as she had to replace J.A.R.V.I.S., who had bonded with the Mind Stone to form Vision. In Vision Quest, however, Condon will reportedly appear as F.R.I.D.A.Y. in human form for the first time.
Speaking of Jarvis, James D'Arcy is known to MCU fans for having portrayed Mr. Jarvis in ABC series Agent Carter, where he became an ally and partner for Agent Peggy Carter throughout the show's two-season run. The character, whose first name is Edwin, was Howard Stark's butler and was committed to clearing his friend's name and helping him however he could - which included getting involved in dangerous capers with Agent Carter.
While there is now uncertainty as to whether Agent Carter is actually canon to the events of the MCU (both because it mirrors the events of the canon Agent Carter one-shot, and the recent arrivals of the Disney Plus MCU shows have seemingly retroactively disregarded any former MCU shows), the character was etched into the canon when D'Arcy made a cameo appearance in Avengers: Endgame, reprising his role as Mr. Jarvis and serving as the butler of the older Howard Stark.
Looking back at both Condon and D'Arcy's history in the franchise, it's clear why both would be involved in Vision Quest. Mr. Jarvis' loyalty and servitude to Howard Stark made him the inspiration for Tony Stark's creation of artificial intelligence J.A.R.V.I.S., who then evolved into android Vision, while F.R.I.D.A.Y. became his successor as Tony Stark's new loyal and reliable AI. Perhaps as the White Vision contemplates his place in the world without the emotion of the Mind Stone to guide him, he will learn more about who he used to be, who inspired his creation, and who succeeded him in his original role.
Vision Quest already sounded fascinating; but between this new report and the rumors of Elizabeth Olsen returning as the Scarlet Witch, the series gets more and more interesting by the day. Here's hoping all of these reports pan out to be true.
