Marvel fans have spent the past few months wondering what the future of the MCU was going to look like. The franchise, which has just crossed $30 billion at the box office, has been in uncharted waters in recent months after a number of underperformances, negative reviews, and the departure of its new big villain, leaving audiences wondering what would happen in the endgame of the Multiverse Saga.

Most of that uncertainty stemmed from Avengers 5. The Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming film was once titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty after new big bad Kang The Conqueror, but after the studio parted ways with Jonathan Majors, the future of Kang became unclear (and the movie was quietly retitled to Avengers 5). San Diego Comic-Con brought forth some answers, as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that the film had been retitled to Avengers: Doomsday, with Doctor Doom replacing Kang as the central villain.

That meant that The Kang Dynasty was officially cancelled and that the studio was moving into a new direction. However, according to one insider, the plot of the movie would have been extremely exciting.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty would have brought back beloved heroes

According to Marvel insider MyTimeToShineHello, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty would have been all about a smaller group of heroes who teamed up to stop Kang The Conqueror. The plot would have reportedly centred on Anchor Beings from specific universes, who united in a bid to prevent Kang from destroying the Multiverse. However, when their plan ultimately failed, it would have paved the way for the MCU's main heroes, The Avengers, and other heroes throughout the multiverse to stop him in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Among the heroes that were rumored to be involved were Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, and Tom Holland's Spider-Man; all of whom were, according to this rumor, set to be the Anchor Beings of their respective universes. It was also reportedly set to include Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Nicolas Cage's Ghost Rider.

This is actually rather interesting as it, if it were true, it would confirm that Jackman's new Wolverine has indeed become the Anchor Being of the Fox Marvel Universe. Deadpool and Wolverine introduced the concept of Anchor Beings, and without giving too much away if you haven't seen the movie, it confirmed that that specific Logan wasn't the chosen one in his own universe; did he become the Anchor Being of the world he was brought to?

This would also confirm that Tom Holland's Peter Parker is the Anchor Being of Earth-616. Ever since the concept was introduced just a few weeks ago in Deadpool and Wolverine, fans have been curious as to who the MCU's would be. This rumor may have given us all our answer.

All that being said, it's important to remember that The Kang Dynasty storyline was cancelled. Though there are still reports that Kang will be recast in a future MCU project so that he can be officially written out, the movie has evolved into Avengers: Doomsday with Robert Downey Jr. entering the fray as new big bad Doctor Doom. And with that will likely come a new plot, especially now that we know there will be a much bigger line-up of heroes in the movie than this rumor suggests.

As with all Marvel rumors, there is a high chance that this may not have been the final plot for the film after all, but it is interesting to think about what could have been (and will probably never be).
