Marvel's new Wolverine series will introduce an ancient enemy for Logan
By Mark Lynch
The finale of the Fall of X storyline is almost here, but X-Men comic books will never end. The next era for Marvel’s Mightiest Mutants is called From the Ashes. Since Marvel Comics reported it, multiple X-titles were announced. Among them was Wolverine.
There was no way Marvel would go without a Wolverine solo series. Logan’s too popular. The problem is he’s done a lot in his fifty years as a comic book character, so where does he go next? Thankfully, there isn’t a shortage of amazing creative teams to figure that out. In this case, writer Saladin Ahmed (Daredevil and Miles Morales: Spider-Man) and artist Martín Cóccolo (Immortal Thor) are the ones to do it; taking over for Wolverine during From the Ashes and bringing in both old foes and new villains for Wolverine to fight.
"An old enemy will re-emerge, a new villain will rise, Logan's healing factor (and his rage) will be pushed to the brink. But Nightcrawler knows Logan’s capable of doing what’s right."

Speaking to Marvel.com, Saladin Ahmed and Martín Cóccolo spoke about their new opportunity. Saladin said, “When I was a kid, Wolverine was the coolest character in comics. That hasn't changed a whole lot for me, so when Marvel approached me about a new solo Logan book, it was an instant YES.” Cóccolo is excited as well adding: “It's a dream come true for me, and I can't believe I get to tell my younger self every day that I'm drawing WOLVERINE."
Benjamin Percy has been writing Wolverine for the last five years. In that time, he’s written Logan better than most. Percy reminded fans that Wolverine is an elite fighter and teammate, and constantly growing as a person. During Sabretooth War, he took Logan lower than he had in years to build him back up. The next writer was always going to have big shoes to fill, but Marvel picked the perfect team to get the job done.
As a huge fan of Wolverine, I can't wait for this series to begin. Saladin is a fantastic writer and Cóccolo's art will make Wolverine look brutal and beautiful at the same time. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow for more X-Men news as it comes out.
Wolveirne No.1 is scheduled to be released on September 11, 2024.
