Marvel didn't cancel all of its "risky" projects; the surviving one will surprise you

It sounds like some of Marvel Studios' original ideas will remain in the next chapter of the MCU, and that's a very good thing!

Rumors have been running rampant for months, suggesting that Marvel Studios would be scrapping some of its riskier projects. If you've been a fan of the franchise for a long time, you'll know that rumors are always circulating when it comes to Marvel, but this time it's different.

After the underperformances of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels, it showcased that the studio couldn't just produce anything and turn it into a Marvel Cinematic Universe hit anymore. Shortly after that, reports revealed that Disney CEO Bob Iger was working with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to help the studio adopt a new "less-is-more" approach. That meant it would release less titles in a year in order to ensure that each one gets enough focus to produce the strongest product possible.

Sometime after that, reports emerged that this approach also involved less risk-taking, with rumors of a number of in-development titles getting scrapped. Naturally, fans' thoughts went to all of their favorite rumored projects, fearing that they might not make it to the silver screen. That included this one, which is seemingly okay after all.

Young Avengers is reportedly still happening

According to Marvel insider Alex Perez, the Young Avengers movie is still happening at the studio. Speaking to fans during their August Q&A (via The Cosmic Circus), they answered a question about the plans for the Young Avengers "in terms of the storyline for the project (if it's still happening that is)", replying "It's still happening but they have got to assemble first".

This is no doubt great news for fans of the project, who were worried that it may be one of the many cuts that the studio was rumored to be making. Earlier this year, a report from insider Daniel Richtman revealed that Marvel would be focusing on more guaranteed hits and therefore taking less risks going forward; an approach which reportedly led to the cancellation of planned Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, and Eternals sequels (as well as a potential second season of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law and a show focusing on the beloved Photon, Monica Rambeau).

It's important to note that a Young Avengers project has not yet been officially announced by Marvel, but it is one of the projects that have been reported to be in development for some time now. Throughout Phases Four and Five, there have been subtle references to that team assembling, through the introductions of some of its comic book members, such as Kate Bishop, Tommy and Billy Maximoff, Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), and Kid Loki. During that time, there were persistent rumors of a Young Avengers TV series, but it eventually evolved into a movie project instead, according to reports.

Those long-standing rumors finally began to come to life in the post-credits scene of The Marvels, when Kamala Khan reached out to Kate Bishop with the hopes of launching their own Avengers-like team. However, after the box office failure of that movie, fans began to worry that the Young Avengers project could be among the titles that were rumored to be dropped from the franchise.

It's good that this doesn't seem to be the case, as the Young Avengers have all the potential in the world and there is no doubt that fans would love to see them assemble on-screen. In fact, recent rumors even suggested that a movie would involved none other than the Scarlet Witch, as the team would go on a mission to find Wanda Maximoff.

It's always best to take any rumors or reports with a grain of salt when it comes to the MCU, but the thought of the Young Avengers still going ahead is an exciting one at that! Here's hoping it does indeed happen in the near-future. If the Scarlet Witch is also a part of that project? Well, that's just a bonus!
