Heartstopper star casts doubt on rumored MCU role
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is entering into uncharted territory with its Multiverse Saga opening up new possibilities for storytelling through the introductions of new, interesting characters. We're seeing that already with projects such as Shang-Chi And The Legend of the Ten Rings, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, and Agatha All Along.
There are also rumors of a potential Young Avengers project, with characters such as Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, and Cassie Lang expected to serve as members of the team when it eventually makes its MCU debut. The children of the Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff, are also expected to play a role, as multiple versions of Tommy and Billy Maximoff have been introduced in recent projects.
There have also been rumors of Hulkling showing up at some point, with Heartstopper star Kit Connor rumored to be playing the role. But Connor himself has cast doubts on a Marvel appearance (for now).
Kit Connor doesn't think he's a good choice for Hulkling
Kit Connor was recently rumored to be playing Hulkling in the MCU, making his debut ahead of a potential Young Avengers project, but the Heartstopper star has shot down those rumors in a recent interview with Omlete, also adding that he doesn't think he would be the right choice for the character.
""I don't think I would be a good choice for Hulkling, to be honest. I think people would get tired of seeing me and Joe [Locke] together eventually, if we kept doing this in the coming years.”"
In the comics, Hulkling is the boyfriend and eventual husband of Billy Maximoff, a.k.a. Wiccan, who is the character that Connor's Heartstopper co-star Joe Locke is seemingly playing in Agatha All Along. Locke's character, currently known simply as Teen, is a mysterious addition to the Disney Plus series and his identity currently remains the biggest mystery of all. Fans have been speculating that the character is indeed Billy and that he will eventually join the Young Avengers.
If Hulkling were to join the MCU, it's easy to see why fans think Connor would be a great choice. Not only would he make a great Hulkling, he would also have that instant chemistry with Billy (if that is indeed who Locke's character turns out to be) given that they are currently playing boyfriends in Netflix's Heartstopper.
This isn't the first time that Connor has discussed the topic of playing Hulkling, as the rumor came up at San Diego Comic-Con during an interview with Josh Horowitz of MTV. The star said that a friend had told him about the rumor and that it was the first he had heard of it, adding that he was going to leave the world of Marvel to Locke for now. Although he didn't entirely rule out an MCU role in the future.
Fans weren't entirely convinced by his comments, however, as previous Marvel actors have promised that rumors of their castings were untrue only to appear in various MCU projects shortly afterwards.
We'll have to wait and see if Connor and Locke cross paths on a Marvel project, but in the meantime, we can see them together on Heartstopper season 3, returning to their roles as Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring for another eight episodes.
Heartstopper season 3 premieres on Netflix on Thursday, October 3. Agatha All Along streams new episodes on Disney Plus on Wednesdays.
