Everyone's favorite Marvel hero will return in Avengers: Doomsday
Avengers: Doomsday is probably the most anticipated movie on the Hollywood horizon right now. The Marvel Cinematic Universe spectacle will reunite the core group of heroes from the franchise (which will admittedly be different as three of the originals are no longer there) to take on a threat so large that the fate of the multiverse itself is at stake.
It's a big one! And to contend with that, The Avengers will need a big team, comprised of most of the heroes from the MCU (and perhaps even Marvel heroes from throughout the rest of the multiverse). I mean, they are dealing with Doctor Doom, who just so happens to look exactly like their beloved Iron Man Tony Stark. Yep, Robert Downey Jr. is back in the new role, and the Avengers are going to pull out all the stops to protect the multiverse from Doctor Doom and the dangers he poses.
There is one MCU hero that fans weren't sure would be involved in the upcoming fifth Avengers movie, because he had been through quite a bit in his previous franchise appearance that left him pretty isolated. Thankfully, he won't be isolated for much longer.
Spider-Man reportedly set for a major role in Avengers: Doomsday
It sounds like we should expect to see a lot more of Spider-Man in the MCU's near-future. Veteran Marvel insider Daniel Richtman reports that the webslinger is set to have a major role in Avengers: Doomsday, even describing it as being bigger than his roles in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
That's great news simply because it means we are going to see the return of Tom Holland as Spider-Man pretty soon, but it's also very exciting because we're going to see a lot of him. Sure, his role in Endgame was limited to the triumphant return in the final battle, but he had quite a major part to play in Infinity War, so if Doomsday promises even more, we're definitely in for a fun ride with the character.
MCU fans weren't sure what kind of a role Peter Parker would play going forward. While we all knew a new Spider-Man trilogy was in the works that would bring the character back to the MCU, his most recent appearance (in Spider-Man: No Way Home) saw Doctor Strange cast a spell that would result in everyone forgetting who Peter Parker was. And yes, that includes all of the Avengers.
That doesn't rule out Spider-Man remaining an Avenger, but it does mean that none of them will know who he is behind the mask and that none of the relationships he had established with any team members would be intact - including those with Doctor Strange and Happy Hogan. So that will undoubtedly play into Avengers: Doomsday and perhaps even its sequel Avengers: Secret Wars.
Speaking of Spidey's return, Spider-Man 4 has officially entered the conversation as it was just confirmed that Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton would be directing it. If you're wondering how Tom Holland can play the title role in that and a major role in Avengers 5, Daniel Richtman also reveals that both are set to begin filming in early 2025 and that a plan has been laid in place to allow him to shoot both of them.
The magic of Marvel Studios continues to boggle the mind, but as long as that magic involves Spider-Man in a major role, fans will no doubt be perfectly happy with that. Oh, we're so ready for Peter Parker's return!
