Classic Marvel series will return for another season, reports say
The world seems more ready for Marvel than ever before and it all has to do with the success of Deadpool and Wolverine. The franchise had, by no means, fallen from grace, but it had been struggling to match its decade-long string of success in recent years, with a number of critical and commercial underperformers. Now, it's in a state of renaissance, as its most recent installment has brought the film series back to its legendary heights, achieving both critical acclaim, and incredible box office success, becoming its 11th Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to cross $1 billion.
Still, there are some steps being taken behind the scenes to ensure that the studio's recent shortcomings are a one-and-done thing. And with that, Marvel has reportedly gone back to the drawing board to build upon some of its recent success stories and seal the fates of those outings that didn't quite reach the same heights.
With rumors of renewals and cancellations of multiple Disney Plus shows, it's been an interesting time to be a Marvel Studios fan. While the fates of these shows have yet to be officially confirmed, there are constant good reports for one show in particular, and now we have perhaps the most important of them all.
Moon Knight season 2 is reportedly happening at Marvel Studios
According to reliable Marvel insider Daniel Richtman, Moon Knight season 2 is in development at Marvel Studios. Yes, this isn't the first time we've heard this rumor, but it is particularly important this time around given the source that it's coming from.
The truth is that fans have been calling for Moon Knight season 2 ever since the first season came to a close in spring 2022. Heck, back then it felt like an inevitability. It's only the lack of clarity about the show's fate - and indeed the fate of the vast majority of the MCU Disney Plus shows - in the years since that has maybe made those fans a little less confident in the possibility.
That's not to say that there haven't been any updates, as there were quite a few early on. Oscar Isaac himself even revealed that there had been conversations about the show returning for a second season, and given how disconnected from the rest of the MCU franchise that Moon Knight and his characters were, the show was one of the obvious choices for another go-around.
The most significant thing about Richtman's report is that it suggests that Marvel are still interested in making that second season, even after all of the rumors about the studio having to adopt a new "less-is-more" approach going forward. And that's a good thing.
In recent months, there have been multiple rumors of the studio revisiting a number of its Disney Plus shows to see which ones could feasibly return for another season. Up to that point, Marvel had renewed only Loki for a second season out of its live-action shows, but reports have begun to claim that Hawkeye and perhaps even Ms. Marvel could join it. Amidst all of that, it seems the Moon Knight season 2 rumors have persisted. And now, this might just be the most hopeful update fans have received yet.
Oscar Isaac's performance as Marc Spector and Steven Grant certainly left audiences wanting more, and with that Jake Lockley reveal in the finale's closing moments, there was always potential for more story with this show. Perhaps now Marvel is finally ready to start exploring that story.
Here's hoping that all of these Moon Knight reports are true, because the more Moon Knight, the better.
