Huge movie star will reportedly cameo in Deadpool 3 in this unexpected role
It's almost time for Deadpool and Wolverine, which is shaping up to be the movie event of the summer. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is used to producing summer bangers but there is an extra air of excitement around this one, particularly because it brings both of its titular characters into the MCU in what is sure to be a treat for fans of Fox's classic X-Men film series.
Their arrival in the established franchise will be explained through the use of the multiverse, which has obviously become an important factor in the MCU's Multiverse Saga. That also means that there could be a multitude of cameo appearances for characters from other Marvel movies and franchises. Adding to the excitement is the possibility of other variants of Deadpool and Wolverine appearing, and there are already plenty of rumors about which versions we might see.
Now, a new one has added to the intrigue; and it's really quite unexpected. If it happens, though, it will make for a heck of an MCU moment.
Matthew McConaughey rumored for Deadpool's cowboy variant
According to veteran Marvel insider Alex Perez, Matthew McConaughey will be making a surprise appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine as the Cowboy Deadpool variant. The scooper took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, and via his account AlexFromCC, he confirmed that the legendary actor is in the movie.
Of course this hasn't been confirmed by Marvel Studios as of yet, but it probably won't be acknowledged until the movie itself is in theaters to maintain the buzz and secrecy surrounding it. One thing that isn't a secret, however, is the fact that Deadpool's Cowboy variant will be making an appearance, as we got a brief glimpse of him (alongside Lady Deadpool) in the most recent teaser for the movie.
There has also been a lot of speculation around who will be playing Lady Deadpool, with names such as Blake Lively and Taylor Swift coming up in the rumor mills. It's possible that neither one of those two superstars will appear in the movie, but they've been heavily rumored to be making some kind of appearances. That right there shows you the levels of hype that are surrounding Deadpool and Wolverine.
The film is expected to take some cues from Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when it comes to taking advantage of the limitless possibilities of the Multiverse Saga and therefore audiences are expecting a multitude of cameos and returns from other non-MCU Marvel movies. We know that a number of classic X-Men movie characters will appear including Pyro, Azazel and Lady Deathstrike, but rumors have been ranging from Daredevil and Elektra's Jennifer Garner to the MCU's own Chris Evans (albeit in his classic Fantastic Four role as the Human Torch).
We also know that there will be other variants of Logan featured in the movie too, with some big names attached to the various rumors surrounding those. One of them appeared in the very first Deadpool and Wolverine trailer, and that's the version sporting an eyepatch (affectionately known as "Patch Wolverine"). Those, alongside the multiple variants of Wade Wilson we're expecting to see, suggest that the Multiverse Saga will be really showing off in this movie.
But we can safely say that Matthew McConaughey as Cowboy Deadpool might just be the most unexpected cameo of all. Is it too good, outlandish or unbelievable to be true? We'll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, all we can do is sit tight and say: "Alright, Alright, Alright".
