When it comes to its Disney+ original series, Marvel Studios hasn’t exactly been the most proactive with handing out renewal orders. As of May 2024, the only live-action Marvel Studios series Disney has officially given a second season to has been Loki with the fates of all other shows still remaining in limbo.

Some shows seem to have been designed to be limited series such as WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Solider, while others seemed to leave the door open for a potential second season. Despite this, Marvel has been stingy in handing out renewals to amazing series such as Moon Knight, Hawkeye, She-Hulk, or Ms. Marvel… but that might soon be changing.

Rumor has it Marvel Studios has already renewed Hawkeye for a second season and now it seems that the studio is in the process of ordering another season of Ms. Marvel as well!

Marvel rumored to be prepping Ms. Marvel season 2

Although Marvel Studios has not yet announced the renewal of Ms. Marvel, it’s been reported that Marvel is currently discussing a second season of the breakout series. According to insider Daniel RPK, Marvel is currently in discussions about a second season of Ms. Marvel and is said to be making a decision soon regarding the future of the show.

The timing of the report honestly makes sense given that Marvel Studios has some big presentations coming up in the months ahead. It’s expected that Marvel will present a showcase during San Diego Comic-Con in July and Marvel Studios will also reportedly have a present at the D-23 event in August as well. In addition to having a few big presentations coming up this summer, a second season of Ms. Marvel seems like a natural way to progress Kamala’s storyline now that Marvel has confirmed it will not be moving ahead with a third Captain Marvel movie.

With Captain Marvel 3 not happening at Marvel, a second season of Ms. Marvel could allow Marvel Studios to explore Kamala’s character even further. It could also give Marvel the chance to revisit unresolved characters from the first season of Ms. Marvel connected to the reveal that Kamala is a mutant and catch fans up with characters from the show who we haven’t seen since its end including Kamran and Bruno.

A second season could also open the door for Brie Larson to return as Captain Marvel and advance the storylines left open in The Marvels, while building upon the relationship we got to see between Kamala and Carol in the film. It could also be used to help pave the way for the Young Avengers to officially assemble.

Ms. Marvel season 2 could be key to the Young Avengers movie happening

The end of The Marvels saw Kalama approaching Kate Bishop about assembling a team. This was the first major step forward to the Young Avengers assembling in the MCU and a second season of Ms. Marvel could truly help lay the groundwork for a Young Avengers film.

In theory, the second season of Ms. Marvel could follow Kamala as she works to assemble her team or even better serve as a launching pad for the Young Avengers to come together before an official film.

A television series would be the perfect way to bring the team together and with Ms. Marvel clearly set to be the team’s leader and founding member, what better way than to use her show as a way to explore Kamala’s work in building the team and bringing them together? This would allow for more character development than throwing characters together in a movie and could help MCU fans invest in any new characters introduced in the season before they make the jump to the big screen either in a Young Avengers movie or as part of Avengers 5 or Avengers 6.

A first season could draw inspiration from the first season of Titans by introducing the key characters who will be at the heart of the team while weaving together their origin stories and allowing fans to see them truly come together as a team. There are still many steps that need to be taken before the Young Avengers could assemble and we’d love to see Kalama put a team together in a second season of Ms. Marvel.

With Marvel Studios in talks now about a second season, we should know for certain what the future holds for Ms. Marvel in the months ahead. Fingers crossed, we might even get an announcement at SDCC or D-23!
