The rumor mill is running rampant once again now that Marvel is looking ahead to the future and we know exactly what Marvel Studios is planning for its next Avengers movie. After Marvel confirmed Avengers 5 will now be titled Avengers: Doomsday while Avengers 6 will proceed as Avengers: Secret Wars and Deadpool & Wolverine cracked the door wide open for multiversal cameos, there is a lot of growing speculation over who Marvel might be looking to bring into the mix for its upcoming Marvel films.

Among the latest actors whose name has begun being tossed around is Tom Cruise, who is rumored to be on Marvel’s radar once again with the hope being to bring Cruise into the fold as a variant of one of Marvel’s most iconic characters.

According to scooper My Time to Shine Hello, Marvel is reportedly trying to get Cruise to join the MCU as an Iron Man variant for the two upcoming Avengers films. This makes sense given that Cruise was one of the actors Marvel originally looked to for the role of Tony Stark and he was also rumored to be on their radar for other multiverse-related projects including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Of course, Cruise has never appeared in the MCU and it’s unclear if he ever will, but the fact that there are rumors once again swirling that Marvel is interested in bringing him into the fold makes complete sense.

Tom Cruise doesn’t seem interested in playing Iron Man

While rumors continue to suggest that Marvel is interested in having Tom Cruise play a variant of Iron Man within the MCU, it doesn’t appear that Cruise has any interest in playing the character.

When rumors began swirling around that he was going to play an Iron Man variant in Multiverse of Madness, Cruise caught win and seemed to make it clear that he has no desire to follow in Robert Downey Jr.’s footsteps by taking on the role.

“Not close. Not close. I love Robert Downey Jr. I can’t imagine anyone else playing this role and I think it’s perfect for him,” Cruise told Pop Culture when asked about how close he came to the role and whether he’d be interested in playing a superhero.

Of course, Marvel has taught us to never say never as they can be quite persuasive as we know in luring in major talents. However, given Cruise’s comments we can’t see him eagerly jumping at the chance to play Iron Man in the MCU, though it would be a fun cameo for Marvel to pull off and Cruise would definitely be a nice get for the MCU.

Given that Downey Jr. is coming back to play a new character, it seems like the door should be open for another actor to step in and play a multiversal variant of Iron Man. Whether that happens and whether Cruise ends up in the role, remains to be seen but it’ll be interesting to see what Marvel might attempt to pull off in the upcoming Avengers movies!
