Marvel is reportedly making the Disney Plus show we've been waiting for
Marvel Studios is enjoying an incredible comeback right now due to the success of Deadpool and Wolverine. That movie was always destined for success given the Deadpool franchise's popularity and the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but the levels of success that it has experienced are exponential. And with that, the uncertainty surrounding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has vanished.
That's not to say that there aren't still mysteries in the franchise. Nobody loves a mystery more than Marvel, and there is an abundance of it surrounding its upcoming phases as a number of projects (both confirmed and long-rumored) have question marks about when - or if - they will be released.
However, it sounds like one long-rumored project may finally come to fruition in the future.
Marvel's Strange Academy series is reportedly in development
According to veteran Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello, a Strange Academy series is officially in development at Marvel Studios, with a tease for the show coming at the end of upcoming Disney Plus series Ironheart.
In the comics, Strange Academy saw Doctor Strange train young sorcerers at the, well, Strange Academy. The series allowed readers to meet new sorcerers and gave more focus to the magical side of the Marvel universe. Needless to say, that would make for some great television if it made its way to Disney Plus. And with rumors that magic users are set to be more prominent in the fight against Doctor Doom, that could help launching the foundations of the series.
The series has yet to be officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, however, but there's quite a strong possibility that this rumor is one that will come to life in the coming years. A Strange Academy series has been rumored for some time now, with fans initially expecting it to be one of the titles within the Multiverse Saga. That has yet to happen, but a recent report gave them hope that it could happen sooner rather than later (albeit with a twist).
Another rumor from the same source claimed that the studio is also developing a project focused on Wong. Portrayed by Benedict Wong, the beloved character is the MCU's current sorcerer supreme (Doctor Strange forfeited that title when he was wiped out of existence by Thanos for five years), so it wouldn't be too unbelievable for him to be the one training young sorcerers in this adaptation. That would allow Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange to continue to play a major role on the big screen in both his own movies and any Avengers crossovers.
In fact, one of the earliest rumors about the show suggested that it would star Wong and Xochitl Gomez, who would reprise her role as America Chavez from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. And honestly, that would make sense given that the film ended with Chavez being trained by Wong himself.
We'll have to wait and see if Marvel officially announces Strange Academy in the future, but there is no denying that it has all the potential in the world. And the more rumors that are reported about it, the more exciting it becomes.
