Marvel to stage a monumental character return much sooner than expected

The MCU comeback we hoped for but weren't sure would even happen may take place in just a matter of weeks.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the home of the impossible. With time travel, multiverses, Infinity Stones, and witchcraft all at its disposal, there isn't much that can't happen in the MCU. Well, except maybe bringing back Black Widow and the original Gamora; whatever the Soul Stone takes, it keeps. But aside from that, most impossible things are pretty possible in the Marvel Studios franchise.

Yes, resurrections are somewhat doable in this franchise, albeit in interesting ways. Steve Rogers "died" in the 1940s when he saved the world from the Red Skull, but he was "revived" after spending 70 years frozen alive in the ice. Meanwhile, Vision "returned" after his apparent demise in Avengers: Infinity War when Wanda Maximoff created a supernatural version of him as part of her Hex before the original Vision was salvaged and reprogrammed.

Now, according to reports, Marvel's most recent ambiguous death could be undone in just a matter of weeks.

*** This article contains potential SPOILERS from Agatha All Along. While the events of this report may not pan out in the series, reading on does potentially risk spoiling the season finale for yourself. ***

Scarlet Witch rumored to return in Agatha All Along finale

According to multiple reports from various scoopers, Elizabeth Olsen may reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch, in the season finale of Disney Plus' Agatha All Along. The first of those is a report from last year, in which scooper Divinity Seeker reveals that Wanda will return in the ninth episode of the show, revealing that she never died after the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness but that she had simply been "depowered". She will then reportedly work with Agatha, her former nemesis, to protect Teen, who is actually her son Billy, a.k.a. Wiccan.

While that's certainly a lot to take in, the thing that gives this report more weight is the fact that it also suggests Mephisto will be involved in the final episode, tempting Wanda by offering her her powers back. If you've been watching the show, you'll know that the third episode finally made reference to Mephisto, making history as the long-rumored character's first official mention in the MCU. According to this report, Wanda will refuse, opting to stay with Agatha and Billy in the hopes of finding her other son Tommy, who is rumored to play a role in Vision Quest.

Wanda's apparent return in Agatha All Along has been supported by fellow scooper Film News, who claims that Scarlet Witch will return from the dead in five weeks, adding that "she was never dead" in the first place.

The character's return in Agatha All Along would make sense for a number of reasons. First of all, she was the star of WandaVision, and Agatha All Along is a spinoff of that series. Moreover, she created versions of her children, Tommy and Billy Maximoff, during her time in Westview and has since been determined to find a way to make them real. This led her down a dark path in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as she found herself being corrupted by the Darkhold (after she took it from Agatha Harkness) and vowed to find an alternate version of her children in another world, essentially stealing them from another version of Wanda.

In the end, she did the right thing and destroyed the Darkhold by destroying the origin of its power and bringing Mount Wundagore down on herself. She presumably died in the process, but fans haven't been convinced; particularly because there was a red charge of smoke right before the mountain came down, signifying that she might have teleported out of harm's way.

If Teen, played by Joe Locke, truly does turn out to be Billy Kaplan, a.k.a. Wiccan, audiences will no doubt long for a reunion between him and Wanda. And as her arc was directly built around finding a way to do that, it would be great to see it happen in Agatha All Along. Honestly seeing Elizabeth Olsen share a scene with Joe Locke would be a moment in time, and it would be equally epic to see her share the screen with Kathryn Hahn's Agatha again.

We now know that Marvel Studios is committed to telling a three-part story with WandaVision, Agatha All Along, and Vision Quest. The WandaVision trilogy, if you will, will likely be about bringing Wanda and Vision's family together again, and having the Scarlet Witch return in the middle chapter, reunite with one of her sons and set out in search of the other - the same son that is expected to return in Vision Quest - would be a great way of creating that throughline and setting the stage for the final chapter of the story.
