Marvel wants Keke Palmer to join the MCU: Here's 3 roles she'd be perfect for!
The rumors just keep buzzing during one of the most exciting times in Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom in a very long time. The success of X-Men '97 and the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine have injected pure elation into the fanbase as the MCU begins to tell the complex stories of the X-Men, one of the most popular superhero cliques of all time. The latest rumor is only adding to the enthusiasm generated by a strong stretch for the comic movie giant.
According to a new report from Marvel insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is interested in casting Keke Palmer in a big role within the MCU.
Keke Palmer is a versatile actress with 111 acting credits ranging from early works like Akeelah and the Bee (2006) to more recent films like Jordan Peele's Nope (2022). Palmer is a popular talent as evidenced by her multiple awards including two Primetime Emmy Awards and five NAACP Image Awards. We know that she would bring it, were she to be cast, so here are some roles that the MCU should consider her for.
3. Misty Knight
First off, let's give flowers to Simone Missick, who played Misty during the Netflix Marvel saga, making appearances in Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. She was fantastic in the role and if the MCU saw fit to bring her back for it, many of us would cheer. However, she mentioned being open to a return years ago and we haven't heard a peep about a return for her, so Kevin Feige could very well be moving on from that version of the character if Misty were to make her MCU debut.
Enter Keke Palmer, who has the charm and resolve to play a firm but fair detective who turns into so much more. There have been rumors about the possible return of Luke Cage in the MCU (now that we know Netflix's Daredevil, Kingpin, and Punisher are canon to the MCU) but nothing concrete as of yet. But you don't need Luke to bring Misty Knight in. If the MCU has plans to bring Shang-Chi's world together with Daredevil's, Knight could be the facilitator given the character's connections to them in the comics. And Palmer would be great in the role.
2. Medusa
Keke Palmer would be spectacular as Medusa. This character deserves redemption after the horrendous job done by the writers and costume design department for Serinda Swan's version of the inhuman queen in the television series Inhumans. As a fan of Swan's since her role in Breakout Kings back in 2011, it was a travesty to see what she had to work with in a Marvel letdown that didn't make it past the first season.
Medusa is burdened with the well-being of her people after being born into a royal family. She goes through hell on her way to being considered the Inhuman Queen. MCU fans got a brief glimpse of her husband, Black Bolt, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before Wanda Maximoff silenced him forever. It's time to give Medusa a chance to shine.
If this rumor turns into breaking news, it would be Palmer's first role in a comic book movie but her two decades of acting experience in various genres should be enough to deter any possible criticism. Give her a chance to bring Medusa to the big screen to tell the complex story of adversity and treachery in the Inhuman kingdom.
1. Rogue
Keke Palmer's name has been attached to Rogue ever since she dressed up as the legendary X-Men character for Halloween. Naturally, fans have begun to speculate whether she could play the character in a movie. And I'm here to say yes she could!
My biggest question here is how well Palmer would sell Rogue's famously Southern accent but it's likely unfounded as the award-winning actress has acting in her blood, as both of her parents were actors. She's committed to what she does and that shows in her performances, so there is no doubt she could nail all aspects of Rogue too.
Rogue is a mutant filled with emotional depth, fueled by how powerful and dangerous her powers are, even to the ones she loves. Keke Palmer brings experience as an R&B singer, a genre dominated by emotional ballads and deep expression. Vulnerability is a key feature for most of these artists. Truly talented actors can pull from a myriad of experiences to play their roles and Palmer has plenty to pull from.
She would look great with the classic white streaks in her hair and just like how I believe her charisma would shine in a role as Misty Knight, it would absolutely radiate through her portrayal of the X-Men's famous runaway.
