Marvel's big Captain America return gets disappointing update
One of the most anticipated movies on Marvel's upcoming slate of films is Captain America: Brave New World. That might be down to the fact that it's one of the few titles that actually feels like it ties into a previous installment in the Multiverse Saga (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) or it could just be down to the fact that it's a part of the beloved Captain America franchise.
Nevertheless, there is excitement in the air at the possibility of seeing Anthony Mackie take center stage as Sam Wilson takes over the Captain America mantle from his friend Steve Rogers. The film is also set to see the return of a number of MCU characters from previous films, specifically 2008's The Incredible Hulk. However, a new rumor suggests that one of those comebacks might not be as significant as fans had hoped for.
Liv Tyler's Captain America 4 return might be short-lived
Liv Tyler is set to make her long-awaited comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Betty Ross in Captain America: Brave New World, but she may not be sticking around for as long as we thought. According to Marvel scooper My Time To Shine Hello on X, formerly Twitter, she will return "for a scene and a half".
While Marvel Studios has not yet confirmed the extent of Tyler's involvement in the movie, this update could very well be true. There haven't been any reports that suggest Betty Ross will have a major role in the movie, so her appearance in the film will more than likely be a smaller one.
That being said, fans of the character will likely be disappointed if that turns out to be the case. Ross is an important character in Marvel Comics (both in her own right and due to her connections to love interest Bruce Banner and her father General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross) but she hasn't been seen in the MCU since 2008's The Incredible Hulk - which was only the second MCU movie ever made.
With Captain America: Brave New World featuring Thaddeus Ross in a major role as the president of the US (now played by Harrison Ford) and The Leader as its villain, it does appear to be diving into some of the loose threads from the 2008 film. There was even a rumor at one point that the MCU's current Hulk, Mark Ruffalo, could be making an appearance - which has now been disproven as Ruffalo misunderstood a question about his potential involvement in the Captain America sequel.
With that, there was potential for Liv Tyler's return to be a more significant one. But now it appears that she won't have much screentime.
Regardless of how big or small a role she will play, it will be great to see Tyler back in the role for the first time in 16 years. The Incredible Hulk is an oft-forgotten part of the MCU that doesn't always get the credit it deserves, so it will be nice to see Captain America: Brave New World acknowledging its existence after all this time.
