A second season of early Marvel show is in development, reports say
Fresh off the record-breaking success of Deadpool and Wolverine, Marvel Studios is getting its franchise back on track. The previous year had been uncharacteristically rough for the studio after a number of box office failures, but it's back in the $1 billion club thanks to its most recent installment.
With that, attention has now shifted to what's next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Immediately, we have Disney Plus series Agatha All Along to look forward to, which will no doubt be a fun spooky standalone series during the Halloween period. And speaking of Disney Plus, rumor has it that Marvel has gone back to the drawing board when planning the next chapter of the Multiverse Saga.
With those rumors have come reports of cancellations and renewals, as Marvel is seemingly looking at capitalizing on what was successful, while resting anything that wasn't. And among those reports is a new one, backing up the persistant rumors that the MCU's most underrated series could return for a second season.
Hawkeye season 2 reportedly in development with a bigger focus on Kate Bishop
Industry insider Alex Perez recently partook in another Q&A with fans via The Cosmic Circus for the month of September, answering a lot of questions about the MCU. During that, they were asked about the Hawkeye season 2 rumors, revealing that they have heard that the second season of the show is in development. They also reminded fans that that is a very different thing from moving forward, so there is still a chance that it might not come to fruition.
Another reveal from Perez is that a potential second season would have more of a focus on Kate Bishop than the first season did as she would play "a more prominent role". Portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld, Kate is a Hawkeye superfan who ended up needing his help whenever she began investigating some very dangerous people.
Hawkeye was well-received by fans due to its humorous tone, well-choreographed action, and endearing performances. Clint Barton may have not planned on getting a partner (and his reluctant attitude made it all the more entertaining) but he was thankful that he did - and we were all thankful for that brilliant buddy comedy that it turned out to be.
The show functions well as a limited series, but in recent months, there has been constant chatter about a potential second season, as Marvel is reportedly looking to place a focus on turning some of its miniseries into multi-season shows, while also making some tough decisions about others.
Shortly after that, multiple reports surfaced, claiming that Hawkeye season 2 would happen, with one saying that Clint's brother Barney Barton could end up playing a role in it. While it's not yet clear if that would be the direction that a second season would take, it's quite possible that the comeback truly is inevitable at this point.
Hawkeye was definitely one of Marvel's most underrated shows, but its positive response and the rapport on-screen between Steinfeld and Jeremy Renner left us all wanting more, and this new report suggests that it could very well return for another season at some point. How great would that be?!
