15 most popular horror movies of 2023 ranked worst to best
2. Scream VI
Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett brought back the Scream franchise in 2022 with the fifth installment, but their latest movie Scream VI was even better. Seeing the return of Jenna Ortega as Tara, Melissa Barrera as Sam, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy, and Mason Gooding as Chad, the sixth movie takes a change of scenery as the kids go to college in New York City.
The change in location for Scream VI works in its favor, and Ghostface is much scarier in a huge city where no one will hear you scream. The new characters are fantastic and the big reveal in the end is pretty unexpected. The movie is not perfect, but it's a super fun, gory, and all-around entertaining installment in an already beloved franchise. They did good.

1. Infinity Pool
Infinity Pool isn't just the best horror movie of 2023, but it's one of the best movies to come out this year in general. The Brandon Cronenberg-helmed film was poised to be a strange one, and it definitely delivered on that in all the best ways.
The movie follows a married couple named James and Em, played by Alexander Skarsgård and Cleopatra Coleman, who find themselves entangled in a dark world they could never have imagined while vacationing at a resort.
After an accident, the couple is shown the dark ways of the fictional country, thanks to other vacationers played by Mia Goth and Jalil Lespert. But while Em is horrified by what she's seeing and is ready to go back home, James is oddly seduced.
Infinity Pool is daring, beautiful, and deeply disturbing. Goth's performance as Gabi further solidifies her as a modern queen of horror.
