Armor Wars
Don Cheadle is one of the longest-standing active actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He made his first appearance as James "Rhodey" Rhodes in Iron Man 2 in 2010, replacing Terrence Howard in the role. He quickly made it his own, and turned the character into one of the most beloved in the whole MCU franchise. Now, after years of supporting others as War Machine and fighting as one of The Avengers, he is set to get his own spotlight in Armor Wars.
The Armor Wars project was first announced in 2020 and there has been little-to-no movement on it since then. In fact, the only significant movement has been the fact that it evolved into a movie (which came two years after it was originally announced as a Disney Plus series). But even that has been two years ago, leaving fans to wonder what is actually going on with the project.
Recent reports have suggested that the movie is in limbo, stuck "on hold" and that Marvel may have to make a decision about its future in the very-near future. That unfortunately doesn't sound like a promising sign that the studio is invested in proceeding with this title which, after four years of hoping and waiting for it, would be extremely disheartening for fans of the character and the project.
Armor Wars is set to be something of a spiritual successor to the Iron Man movies, focusing on Rhodey - the best friend and loyal ally of Iron Man himself - attempting to protect Tony Stark's legacy when the Iron Man technology falls into the wrong hands. And honestly, that sounds like it could be brilliant. Rhodey has been underappreciated for too long, and after the mismanagement of his character arc in Secret Invasion, he deserves the spotlight in a storyline more befitting his status as an MCU original. It would be wrong to take it away from him - and us - after making us all wait so long for it.
