When the final season of Stranger Things arrives in 2025, fans are anticipating the fifth season of Netflix’s hit drama will bring about some of the show’s biggest deaths to date. And this makes perfect sense.

While there have certainly been some impactful deaths on Stranger Things, most of the deaths within the show have been contained to new characters introduced in the same season in which they meet their untimely demise. Barb, Alexei, Bob, and Eddie are all perfect examples of the show introducing characters only to kill them off within the same season they were introduced, with some appearing in just a few scenes before meeting their demise on the show.

That’s not to say these characters’ deaths weren’t impactful because they most certainly were, but the show has a tendency to play a bit safe when it comes to killing off main characters from the core cast. In fact, the show has yet to kill off a single member of the core ensemble we met in season 1 despite these characters being put in several life-threatening situations leading to several close calls. The few times we thought the show actually had killed off a key member of this original ensemble, they’d reversed course and end up revealing how the character survived after all.

However, we’re now heading into the final season and what promises to be the show’s biggest season yet as the Hawkins crew face off against Vecna. As such, one would expect that not every character will make it out of this final battle and fans have been speculating for months over which core characters could be in danger heading into the last episodes of the show.

There have been many debates and the rumor mill has been running at full speed, with the latest rumor circulating suggesting one major fan-favorite character won’t be making it out alive.

Nancy is rumored to die in the final season of Stranger Things

It seems Nancy Wheeler’s days might be numbered as the latest Stranger Things rumors floating around online suggest that Nancy will not make it out of the final season alive.

According to Stranger Things rumors account Hawkins Happenings, Nancy is rumored to be “obliterated” by Vecna and will be one of the final season’s biggest casualties. Now, this is just a rumor, but it’s one that does make sense given Nancy went toe-to-toe with Vecna in season 4 and is expected to be on the frontlines as the Hawkins crew goes to war with Vecna in the final season.

The good news is that this rumored death isn’t likely to come until the final episodes of the season as it has also been reported that Nancy, Steve, Dustin, and Jonathan find a church in episode 6 where Vecna is rumored to be hiding after the events of season 4. This means Nancy should make it through to at least the sixth episode of the season should the rumor about her death be legit.

This same source suggests that in episodes 7 and 8, Vecna will go into “killer mode” and will no longer be killing individuals for a specific reason as we say in season 4 in which targeted victims who experienced traumatizing experiences in the past who felt they had let others down. Instead, he’ll simply be killing those who get in his way in order to “protect himself and keep the Upside Down to himself.”

Given Nancy is surely going to be among those on a mission to bring Vecna down, it would make sense that she finds herself in danger and sadly it sounds like Vecna might be getting the last laugh when they face off again in season 5.

Of course, it’s important to note that these are all rumors as nothing has been confirmed and won’t be until the season releases in 2025. Still, we’re definitely worried about Nancy and it’s going to be interesting to see whether or not the rumors about her death in season 5 were accurate.
