Joker actor to appear in Star Wars TV series (no, not that one)

It sounds like one actor who previously portrayed The Joker will be making his live-action debut in the Star Wars universe soon. And no, we're not talking about Mark Hamill.

There is a lot of crossover in the pop-culture sphere. If an actor is part of one major franchise; chances are that they might be part of another too. Look no further than the likes of Michael Keaton, Ryan Reynolds, and Josh Brolin, who have starred in both DC and Marvel projects.

That extends to Star Wars, too. Mark Hamill, for example, is best-known to one audience for portraying the legendary Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, and to another for voicing The Joker in many classic Batman TV shows and movies (including Batman: The Animated Series and the Batman Arkham video game series).

But it turns out that he isn't the only Joker actor to appear in the Star Wars franchise, and according to a new report, the other Clown Prince Of Crime could be about to make his debut live-action appearance in the Star Wars universe.

Gotham's Cameron Monaghan will reportedly bring Cal Kestis to a Star Wars Disney Plus project

It sounds like Cal Kestis could be about to make his live-action debut. According to trusted industry insider Daniel Richtman, the character will indeed make his first live-action appearance in a Disney plus project, presumably with Cameron Monaghan reprising the role.

Monaghan originated the Cal Kestis character in 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, reprising it in 2023 sequel Jedi: Survivor. And it isn't just a voice role either, as the character is modelled after his likeness and was brought to life by him through motion capture.

So, if the character does make his presence felt in either a Star Wars Disney Plus project or a big-budget feature film, it technically wouldn't be the first time that Monaghan played the role of the Jedi Padawan. Furthermore, the events of the video games are canon in the Star Wars universe, with the first outing taking place five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.

Pop-culture fans will also recognize Monaghan from Gotham. The series, which just recently celebrated the tenth anniversary of its pilot's premiere on Fox, was a Batman prequel series that ran for five seasons. Monaghan portrayed two roles on the show, both of whom were imperative to the origin of The Joker.

He made his debut in the first season as Jerome Valeska, stunning audiences with his committed performance (and incredible laugh). The character went on to become a thorn in the sides of Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon, exhibiting very Joker-like qualities. However, in the third season, he was shockingly killed off, ending speculation that he was The Joker. That is, until his twin brother Jeremiah, revealed that he was even more unhinged.

Jeremiah would ultimately go on to become The Joker, debuting a new, terrifying look in the series finale when he came face-to-face with Batman. Of course, due to the infamous "Batman embargo", the show wasn't allowed to directly reference the names of either one of the characters, and thus, Jeremiah adopted the nickname "J", while Batman was never given a nickname.

Monaghan's performances as Jerome and Jeremiah were critically-acclaimed, with fans calling for him to get the chance to play The Joker in a film project. Honestly, it would have been deserved, as he offered up two of the best performances we've ever seen from the character.

His joining of the Star Wars universe in the Star Wars Jedi video games makes him the second actor after Mark Hamill to play the Clown Prince of Crime and have a major role in the franchise about that galaxy so far, far away.

Needless to say, if Cal Kestis does make his live-action debut in one of the Star Wars Disney Plus projects, he would be welcomed by fans with open arms. The video games are very popular so there is no doubt that audiences would love to see the character make his presence felt in a TV series. Heck, a TV series starring the character would be a banger of an idea.
