We see different faces and new places, and we get roped along on a really fun murder mystery with so many twists and turns that will leave us thinking about it all for days.
Let’s dive into the juicy details of how the first two episodes wrapped up and left us hanging on the edge of our seats.
Friendly neighborhood SPOILER WARNING here - please continue to read at your own risk.
We meet Mae and Osha Aniseya, twins from the previously unknown planet of Brendok. These two sisters were separated in a dramatic event, in which both Osha and the Jedi thought Mae had been killed. Sixteen years later, these two are on a collision course. Mae, filled with rage and darkness, has embraced the ways of the Sith, while Osha has ditched her Jedi robes for a more mechanical life as a Meknek, a spaceship fixer-upper. But Osha’s past catches up to her as she becomes the prime suspect when Mae starts hunting down the Jedi she holds responsible for their family's tragedy.
Mae’s journey into the dark side is no casual stroll in the park. She’s now a Sith Acolyte, a crucial role in the sinister Rule of Two. In Sith tradition, the Apprentice trains an Acolyte who will one day fight the Master, with the winner claiming the Acolyte as their new Apprentice. It’s like a deadly game of tag with lightsabers. Mae’s mission to prove herself involves targeting the four Jedi from her past. But here’s the twist – she must do it without any weapons. It’s all part of a gruesome test to show she’s got what it takes to climb the Sith ranks.
On the flip side, Osha is also feeling the dark pull. Still angry at Mae for their family’s deaths, she grapples with her own temptations. The bond between these twins is bizarre and powerful (and I can say that as the mother of a pair of identical twin girls myself), hinted to be a Force Dyad, which makes them insanely strong together. Palpatine mentioned this rare connection in The Rise of Skywalker, and it seems Mae and Osha might be the latest in this powerful pairing. Mae’s undercover quest hits a snag when Osha tricks Mae’s partner, Qimir, into spilling the beans about Mae’s mysterious Sith Master. This revelation sends shockwaves through the Jedi Council. They now know there’s a Sith puppet master pulling the strings, but they don’t know who. This breach is a big deal because the Sith have stayed hidden for a thousand years.
With the Jedi hot on her trail and her Master’s identity at risk, Mae is in a tight spot. She and Qimir conspire to keep their secrets safe, even using poison on Jedi Master Torbin to throw them off. But the Sith Master won’t be pleased with this slip-up. The Sith’s plan to remain in the shadows is in jeopardy, setting up a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game between the Jedi and Sith.
The premiere of The Acolyte sets up a refreshing mystery and much-needed new direction with rich characters and deep lore that promises to explore the darker corners of the Star Wars universe. The twin sisters’ bond, the hidden Sith Master, and the Jedi’s quest for truth create a whirlwind of intrigue that’s sure to keep fans hooked. With its layered storytelling and dark twists, The Acolyte is shaping up to be a thrilling ride through the High Republic era.
This is just the beginning of a wild adventure that will dive deep into the Force and the eternal battle between light and dark. Don't forget to tune in to Disney+ next Tuesday, June 11th, for the next episode.
