3. Kingdom Come (Crisis On Infinite Earths)
Worn by: Brandon Routh
Brandon Routh finally got that long overdue chance to play Superman a second time in the Arrowverse Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover. Here, he was playing an alternate timeline version of the Man of Steel he played in Superman Returns (and by extension, an alternate version of Christopher Reeves' Superman). This version had lost everything when The Joker destroyed the Daily Planet and, as a result, had lost his way.
To bring that to life (and pay tribute to a classic comic book story), the Arrowverse creatives designed the first ever live-action version of the Kingdom Come Superman. A deeper shade of blue surrounded a darker, more pointed House of El symbol, in which the sharper red "S" cut through the black. When Lois asked him what it meant, he simply responded "Even in the darkest of times, hope cuts through." And that's just beautiful.
With its majestic red cape and the stunning use of the black and red, this suit is nothing short of cinematic. Better yet, it's comic-accurate, and would be more than worthy of being worn in a Superman movie someday. Sometimes, television outdoes the movies, and this is one of those times.
Seeing Routh's Superman one more time was a treat; but seeing him in this suit was something else. And the same goes for the one that featured the more traditional colors in the closing moments of the crossover.
Stunning.
