The Avengers are getting a new teammate and it's an iconic X-Men

Storm is the MVP of the Krakoan Age and Marvel recognizes it. That's why she'll become the newest member of the Avengers in August.

Marvel Comics continues to roll out news about X-Men: From the Ashes. What started as a few X-titles has become something more. Recently, Marvel teased that the Avengers will add an X-Man to their roster. The next day they announced it was Storm. This writer wasn’t shocked and you shouldn’t be either.

Beyond Storm being one of the most popular comic book characters ever, she was the MVP of the Krakoan age. She was the leader and wartime general that everyone knew she was. She sacrificed her resurrection backups to show that she wasn’t just a member of the Great Ring (this happens in X-Men Red). This proved that Storm was willing to die and not return. Thankfully, she never had to.

Now that the Krakoan Age is over and successful, Marvel continues promoting the X-Men. Not only were the past five years a success but Marvel’s Mightiest Mutants are on their way to the MCU. Highlighting them throughout comics increases the notoriety of their brand. Putting Storm on their premiere superhero team makes sense. She’s one of the most powerful characters in comics and it’ll be a do-over from her previous and brief stint on the Avengers.

With Storm on the team, don’t be shocked when Thor leaves. Their powers are a redundancy. Plus, Thor has a lot going on. He may take a leave of absence to deal with the upcoming threat of the elder gods (read Immortal Thor for that story). It’s also an opportunity to show that Storm is on the same level as the God of Thunder.

Lastly, it should be noted that Black Panther is on the team. T'Challa and Storm's relationship has been shaky at best. T’Challa had a mole on Arakko (Black Panther by John Ridley). Before that, Storm stole Skybreaker from Wakanda (X-Men: X of Swords). It’ll be interesting to see what their relationship looks like. They’ll be professional and get the job done, but will it lead to them becoming romantic again? Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out.
