To quote Billy Butcher, season 4 of The Boys was diabolical. It was nothing like the comic books, and that’s more than okay. Most of the story wouldn’t work in TV show form. Thankfully, showrunner Eric Kripke and the creative team recognized this and made the appropriate changes.

If you’re a fan of the show, the upcoming final season is bittersweet. Unlike Supernatural, it’s doubtful The Boys goes on past season 5. Except for Butcher and Homelander’s fight, all the stories have been told. Plus, there are spinoffs like Gen V, The Boys: Mexico, and possibly more. Deadline reports that Kripke, “hopes to be involved in the expansion of the world, but not as a showrunner.”

The spinoffs aren’t the only things to look forward to. Let's look at what else we know about season 5 of The Boys.

The Boys season 5 is filming until 2025

Unless they’ve been filming in secret, which we know they haven't, there’s no way season 5 is coming this year. Hopefully, we can expect season 5 sometime in 2025.

Kripke revealed to Variety that the cast and crew will film season 5 starting in November 2024. Production will last into 2025.

"And I don’t know when it’ll premiere yet, but we’ll be shooting well into middle of ’25."

There’s one issue. Gen V season 2 will likely debut in 2025 leaving a buffer season for The Boys’ final season. While the seasons normally come out a year apart, this may be different.

Gen V season 2 will affect the final season

Cate and Sam, who most will recognize from Gen V season 2, affected the season 4 finale in a big way.

Without them, Kimiko isn’t captured and Frenchie doesn’t walk away from her. There’s also an obvious plan for Marie. She took one of Homelander’s laser beams and survived (season 1 finale of Gen V). It’ll take more than Butcher and his new powers to take him down. If Ryan doesn't help kill Homelander, Marie could be the key.

But, first, we'll have to see what happens in Gen V season 2!

The Black Noir ending isn’t happening

Eric Kripke said that the Black Noir clone storyline isn’t happening. This was confirmed after seeing the face of the actor playing Black Noir. Homelander in charge was already unlike the comics. Fans can expect more different and cool things that didn't happen in the comics. Who knows, maybe the bad guys win.

Sage has a plan for phase two

As I’ve said since the beginning, everything Sage has done was for a reason. No one could have expected that she did it just to see if she could. There’s something scarier and more exciting about this. Sage said this was only phase one.

Whatever she has planned next will reshape the world. Does she attempt to make the world a better place for everyone and putting Homelander in charge was the only way to do this? Or, are we looking at the greatest supervillain in superhero TV show history?

Is there going to be a Supernatural reunion in season 5?

Supernatural star Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) has accepted the invite to join The Boys’ final season. This means that the Winchester boys could come together again.

The season 4 finale concludes with Homelander looking at his father, Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester of Supernatural). Inside Butcher’s head is Kessler, who is played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan who was Dean and Sam Winchester’s father. Add Eric Kripke to the mix (Supernatural's showrunner)and you have a full reunion.

Don’t be shocked if Misha Collins (Castiel), Mark Sheppard (Crowley), or other Supernatural alumni are in season 5. We’ve already seen Rob Benedict as Splinter in season 4, episode 2.
