The Deadpool and Wolverine popcorn bucket has been revealed
Deadpool and Wolverine is getting more and more visible on that horizon, and the marketing is ramping up tenfold as a result. We've seen the trailers, the key art, and the TV spots, and now that brings us to the one we've all been waiting for (all while sitting on our hands and preparing to raise some eyebrows): The popcorn bucket.
It was the Merc With A Mouth himself, Ryan Reynolds, who took to social media to unveil an incredibly attention-grabbing popcorn bucket of none other than Wolverine himself. The marketing is utter debauchery that only the fan-favorite character can deliver while pushing the NSFW envelope. Check it out below:
The actor's latest social media post delighted the internet with a free-for-all frenzy. It was a dramatic reveal of the newest and oddest variation of a film popcorn bucket: a giant head of Wolverine with the iconic yellow cowl and his mouth positioned and propped wide open.
The video leaves little to the imagination as it features the iconic red and black glove from Deadpool, which feels like Reynolds was in costume during a pre-recorded session (because why would he miss such an inspired marketing opportunity?!).
Reynolds also posted the caption:
"Years from now they will look back at 2024 as the year the War of the Popcorn Buckets began. "
- Ryan Reynolds
For those who don’t know, Reynolds was highlighting the Dune 2 popcorn bucket, which was also a point of conversation earlier this year with its odd design choice.
One final image is that the side of the bucket is adorned in solid black, bearing the message “designed by Deadpool” written and scribbled in almost crayon, adding a sense of juvenile patent joy from the character - staying true to his insanity (and his perpetual need to lovingly drag Wolverine).
Before this announcement, the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, at CinemaCon earlier this year in April. Feige offered a quick taste of what to expect by declaring.
“We’ve asked Deadpool to design a popcorn bucket for Deadpool & Wolverine.” He also teased the audience by saying, “And I don’t want to spoil it, but I will say, there are some movies that inadvertently make crude and rude popcorn buckets, and then there are popcorn buckets designed by Deadpool.”
It seems Feige and Reynolds succeeded with a hearty dose of maximum effort.
Regal Cinemas joined in on the fun and zany antics, sharing a social media post below. However, the TVA interpreted the reveal, emphasizing that the design is now shrouded in mystery, as the theater chain captioned it. If you want to see the full reveal, contact Reynolds by tagging his account. It raises the question of whether other chains, such as Cinemark and AMC, will join a side or unveil a variety of their own.
One thing to note is the price for the latest novelty film bucket hasn’t been revealed. It feels that Marvel Studios has all the faith in the world for this latest production, as ticket sales have already broken numerous records.
Other key figures, such as Hugh Jackman and Wolverine, reacted to the odd creation by declaring, “Don’t try to butter me up.” In addition, director Shawn Levy responded to the news with a similar social media post, offering comments of total surprise, such as, “I thought I was making a movie. Now I’m holding on for dear life.”
A synopsis for the film is laid out in the most Deadpool way ever as it reads:
"Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date - Deadpool & Wolverine, A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier... reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to - F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid."
- Deadpool and Wolverine, Marvel Studios
Shawn Levy directs and leads Deadpool and Wolverine from a script by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.
Deadpool and Wolverine are sprinting towards a July 26 summer release date.
