The Serpent Society may be removed from Captain America: Brave New World
We have always known some changes were going to be made to the upcoming film, Captain America: Brave New World, but rumors suggest that the Serpent Society was removed entirely from the movie.
Created by Mark Gruenwald and Paul Neary, the Serpent Society is a group of supervillains that guessed, is “snake-themed”. They first appeared in Captain America Vol. 1 No. 310. A former professor in economics, Sidewinder, formed the group. He began his career in organized crime after being transformed by Roxxon from a chemically-induced mutation that granted him the ability to teleport. The original Society consisted of Anaconda, Black Mamba, Asp, Bushmaster, Cobra, Death Adder, Cottonmouth, Diamondback, Princess Python, and Rattler.
Over the years, there have been some changes to the roster, with some come and gone. They have worked for many different criminal and terrorist organizations in the past such as HYDRA, the Maggia, and A.I.M. just to name a few. Cobra who renamed himself King Cobra, at one point took over the Serpent Society following Sidewinder’s retirement.
It turns out that infamous scooper and Hollywood insider, Daniel Richtman (aka Daniel RPK) claimed that the sinister group was removed from the final cut of Captain America: Brave New World but the last confrontation towards the film’s climax has changed significantly than intended.
Of course, this is heavily implied that reshoots from additional material included scenes that were scripted by Matthew Orton who was hired in December 2023, affected the appearances of those characters. Does this mean that the Serpent Society won’t appear? Not really. While Daniel RPK is reputable fans should take these scoops with a grain of salt.
Another scooper and insider, CanWeGetSomeToast, validated the story from Daniel RPK. The report from CanWeGetSomeToast claimed that not only Serpent Society’s scenes were the first action sequences of the film, but Roza Salazar who portrayed Diamondback may be the only surviving member of that fictional group in the new version of the movie.
Brave New World (initially titled Captain America: New World Order) wrapped principal photography on June 30, 2023. Due to the film not being received well during early test screenings, according to Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic, the film was stated to undergo extensive reshoots from three major action sequences that were reportedly cut from the movie. As often with Marvel Studios productions, reshoots are pre-planned, which had been arranged before the 2023 writer and actor strikes. They were scheduled between February and May 2024.
Captain America: Brave New World stars Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Harrison Ford, and Liv Tyler.
Julius Onah is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton. Kevin Feige and Nate Moore are producing for Marvel Studios under Walt Disney Studios.
Mackie’s high-flying Capt. Is set to don the jet-pack All-American stripes on the big screen in theaters on Feb. 14, 2025.
