The wait for The Last of Us season 2 continues. We knew with the strike action in the summer of 2023 that we would need to wait, and hopefully, it’s only until next year.

While we wait, we need other shows. The great thing about the zombie genre is that there are plenty to choose from. Here are six, including The Walking Dead, that you need to check out.

The Walking Dead

Of course, The Walking Dead is a must. Not only is it a great series that brings a real look at a post-apocalyptic world to life, but there are plenty of episodes to work your way through. You’ve got 11 seasons of the original series, and then there are a bunch of spin-offs to check out.

The series picks up just as the initial zombie attack happens. We see how Andrew Lincoln’s Rick is attacked and put into a coma. That’s how he stays while the zombie virus infects the people around him. When he wakes up, his wife and son are gone along with the rest of his friends. He needs to find them while surviving this new world.

Then it’s a case of figuring out the new world. The real monsters aren’t the zombies!

Watch The Walking Dead on AMC+.

Z Nation

Syfy has had some excellent shows over the years. Sadly, they end too soon, and Z Nation was definitely one of them. That doesn’t stop it from being a great series to watch while waiting for The Last of Us season 2.

The series follows Murphy, a man who survived the zombie virus that swept America several years before the show starts. He is the last hope to create a vaccine, but he needs to get from New York to California to do it.

This leads to a ragtag group of strangers who are tasked with getting him to the West Coast. Of course, there are dark secrets, various tribes that have formed since the zombie virus broke out, and the zombie-infested terrain to manage. It’s another series that reminds you the zombies aren’t the actual monsters.

Watch Z Nation on the Roku Channel and The CW Seed.

All of Us Are Dead

There are some great K-dramas, and All of Us Are Dead is one that you need to check out. There’s only one season right now, but there is another one in the works.

This one follows a group of teenagers who are trapped in their high school. This place is ground zero for a zombie outbreak, and now the group of humans left alive need to figure out how to survive and get the word out that they are trapped. How long can they believe that there is a chance of survival?

All of Us Are Dead is on Netflix.

Ash vs. Evil Dead

The Evil Dead movies are some of the best when it comes to zombie and supernatural monsters. Bruce Campbell came to life as Ash Williams, the chainsaw-handed monster fighter who would risk it all to keep the people he loved safe.

Well, it’s been 30 years since the movie timeline, and he has managed to avoid the monsters for some time. That is until now. He always knew that there was a risk the monsters would return for him, and that happens in Ash vs. Evil Dead thanks to one act of carelessness. Now he needs to fight to live another day.

Ash vs. Evil Dead is on Starz.

Kingdom

As mentioned, K-dramas are great! If you want a K-drama that is set in the past with a zombie outbreak, Kingdom is one to check out. This one is set in 17th century South Korea, three years after the end of the Imjin War. The Crown Prince of Joseon needs to figure out what mysterious illness has taken over the King.

Well, it turns out that there is some mysterious plague threatening the city. The prince needs to save the Kingdom, while also stopping the political opponents wanting the throne. It’s a great mixture of medieval political drama and zombie horror.

Kingdom is on Netflix.

iZombie

How about something a little different when it comes to zombies? We have all seen people running for their lives, but what if some zombies are able to control their needs and live among the humans? That’s what we see in iZombie.

Liv is bitten during a party, and she comes back as a zombie. She is able to keep her humanity as long as she consumes brains, so what better place to work than in a morgue? While working there, she’s able to help solve crimes. She eats some of the brains of the victims to get their memories (and their personalities!) to help the police figure out who did it.

iZombie is on Netflix.
