This major X-Men star could appear in Deadpool and Wolverine after all

Fans hoping to see an X-Men reunion in Deadpool and Wolverine might actually have a chance as one actor delivers a much more promising answer this time around.

As Deadpool and Wolverine draws near, the rumors have continued to increase by the day. That's normal with any Marvel movie, but this one is what the MCU's Multiverse Saga has been all about, as it promises to feature a number of surprises from other realms of the Marvel universe that aren't canon to the MCU.

We've seen that in recent MCU outings, with Spider-Man: No Way Home bringing in Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's versions of Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness featuring Patrick Stewart's Professor X. But it seems the latter cameo was only the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's nods towards the X-Men, as Deadpool and Wolverine is gearing up to feature more nods to the Fox movies. Of course, we have Hugh Jackman back as Logan, but the rumors claim that he will only be the first returnee from those movies.

While one X-Men cast member in particular has denied a possible appearance in it, a more recent comment suggests the opposite. So maybe now is the time to start getting excited.

Famke Janssen offers a more promising update about a Deadpool 3 cameo

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Famke Janssen spoke about the possibility of reprising her role as the X-Men's Jean Grey in Deadpool and Wolverine. She discussed how the character presented her with multiple opportunities to return to the role in the X-Men franchise even after her apparent death(s) and highlighted how Jean always found a way to come back - which to her "were all surprises" that she "never anticipated".

"I don't know. I mean, I didn't expect to come back after dying as Jean Grey. I came back as the Phoenix [in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand], and I came back in flashback scenes in The Wolverine, and then in Days of Future Past."

It's true that Jean did have quite the rollercoaster ride in Fox's X-Men film series. The character seemingly sacrificed herself to protect her beloved teammates in the conclusion of X2: X-Men United, but her evil alter-ego, the Phoenix, preserved her body and brought her back in X-Men: The Last Stand. After her death in that movie, Jean reappeared in dream sequences that Logan was haunted by in The Wolverine, and she reappeared in a cameo appearance after the timeline had been reset in Days of Future Past.

As for whether she could return again in Deadpool and Wolverine, Janssen is unsure, commenting:

" I don't know. I doubt it, but you never know."

While that response isn't an iron-clad confirmation that she will appear in the upcoming MCU movie, it's a lot more hopeful than her previous response to the same question. Earlier this month, she told ScreenGeek that she wasn't in the movie. However, this new answer does come with an air of possibility. And with that, fans' long-term hopes for an on-screen X-Men reunion may once again feel like a reality. Could we finally see all of them join Logan in donning comic-accurate suits, perhaps?

It's important not to get our hopes up too much because in a movie like this one with endless possibilities for cameos and returns, some fans will undoubtedly be disappointed if their favorite doesn't make an appearance. However, with the focus on the X-Men movies and the Multiverse Saga ongoing, there has never been a more likely time to see the gang back together one more time. Here's hoping that it happens.
