After two very long years House of the Dragon has finally returned to TV screens around the world. It's been a long wait, as HBO's cinematic spectacle has been one of the most heavily-anticipated arrivals of the year - and for very, very good reason. The first season, which debuted in the summer of 2022, had a lot to live up to - looking to redeem the franchise after the poor final season of Game of Thrones, while also attempting to make a name for itself as one of the biggest shows of the summer (in a summer that also featured the monumental Stranger Things season 4). It pulled it all off, arriving with an emphatic bang that had the world ready for another adventure full of Targaryens and dragons.

Ironically, that meant that season 2 had an even bigger reputation to live up to. Could it successfully recreate the first season's success after a two-year wait? We'll have to wait for the ratings to come in before we can fully get those answers, but based on the immediate fan response to the season 2 premiere, it sounds like that answer is a resounding yes.

As we are all still reeling from the events of the season 2 premiere, we're all eager to know what comes next. If you are too, let's dive into the preview for the next episode (and the rest of the season).

The second episode of the new season of House of the Dragon does not yet have a title, but as the trailer reveals, fans are in for another compelling adventure. And after the season premiere, it's not all that surprising, because it truly looks like House of the Dragon season 2 will be pulling out all the stops to prove itself a worthy successor to its game-changing predecessor.

The show returned with a vengeance, reintroducing us to the world of Westeros and allowing us to catch up with the likes of Queen Rhaenrya Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy), Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), and the villainous Daemon Targaryen (played so convincingly well by the incomparable Matt Smith). It was a reintroduction that Game of Thrones fans are all too familiar with as it reminded us why this is a world not for the faint of heart. There was tension, power struggles, and a lot of sights that aren't for everybody, and yet it continues to be a show that you just can't look away from.

By the looks of the trailer (which previews both the next episode and the rest of the season, that is set to continue next week and throughout the second season. And given this show's (and shared universe's) track record for both gripping and shocking viewers, we wouldn't be surprised if the show continues to up the ante with each of its eight episodes.

House of the Dragon season 2 episode 2 airs on HBO and streams on Max next Sunday, June 23 2024, at 9:00 p.m. ET, 6:00 p.m. PT, 7:00 p.m. MT, and 8:00 p.m. CT.
