Zoe Saldana says it would be a 'huge loss for Marvel if they didn’t find a way to bring back the Guardians'
One of Hollywood's most successful actors, Zoe Saldana, sat down with Mike DeAngelo on The Discourse podcast to discuss her upcoming movie, The Absence of Eden, set to hit theaters on April 12. While most Zoe Saldana-involved projects pique my interest, it was her comments about Guardians of the Galaxy that struck a chord with me when asked if her time as the character, Gamora, had come to an end.
"I mean, so far, I think that she is [gone for good] for me, but I don't think Gamora has gone for good."
The article written by The Playlist goes on to reveal Saldana's deep love for the franchise, as she expressed a desire to see GOTG continue. She went as far as to say that she believes it would be a "huge loss for Marvel" if they decided not to continue bringing the escapades of the rowdy, mismatched team back to the masses.
Saldana's hopes realized would be a drastically different Guardians movie
Change is not inherently bad but in this case, it would involve unnecessary risk. The story told about the MCU's favorite misfits was perfect because of who created it. James Gunn won't be returning for another Guardians of the Galaxy movie and his unique mind was the catalyst for the success of Star Lord's bunch. His focus has shifted as the new leader of DC and he has a lot of work to do if they expect to catch up to the clout gained by Marvel, led by Kevin Feige.
Besides, the discourse among fans watching the latest phases has made me realize that fans are cautious about dragging things out. The Guardians of the Galaxy have run their course and it's time to focus on the future with a careful eye on the past.
For example, there are 10 X-Men movies, yet fans have been clamoring for the MCU to take a swing at the popular franchise since they acquired 21st Century Fox back in 2019. Now that they've taken the first couple of steps down that path, that should be the focus, as the mutant-based storylines have a vast catalog of greatness to pull from. Just don't mess it up.
