Prime Video makes the Invincible announcement we've been waiting for

The promotional team behind Prime Video's Invincible perfectly announced that we'll be seeing a lot more of the show in the years to come.

You know a show is good when it gets renewed before a season ends. It’s even better when the program's next season is still around a year out and the studio announces that another season is coming after that. That is the situation we have now with Prime Video’s Invincible.

Invincible has been on the air for years now, and every time it has been renewed, the news has come ahead of its current season's finale. While that technically remains true here, announcing a season 6 renewal before even releasing a trailer for season 5 just goes to show you how much faith Prime Video has in the Robert Kirkman series. And it's honestly not surprising because people love Invincible.

The project has plenty of emotional moments within a lot of action, jokes, and so much blood and guts. Plus, the idea of Mark Grayson never giving up despite being far from invincible shows what a true hero and good character looks like. Even so, confirming season 6 before Mark sits down at Burger Mart to talk about season 5 is a very good sign for its long-term future.

Watch the renewal announcement here:

Okay, let’s be honest. No one is really shocked that Invincible was renewed for a sixth season. Some people might complain about the show, the animation or the voice dub, but you know what people won’t do? They won’t stop talking about it on social media. That lets everyone involved on the show know two things: First, people are really talking about it, so it's still trending. Second, if they're up to date enough to complain, they're still watching.

Invincible is an incredible program despite some of its flaws. It also has a relatively quick turnaround to make up for lengthy wait for season 2, releasing new seasons on an annual basis just like the good old days of linear / broadcast TV. Moreover, the show continues to have amazing fight scenes; the showdown in which Mark, Omni-Man, and Great Thaedus destroyed Planet Viltrum was flawlessly animated (and it had an incredible score to go with the carnage!).

Why announce season 6 now?

Announcing season 6 so early was a brilliant move on Prime Video's part. Not only does this announcement get audiences aware and ready for season 5 during a relatively quiet hiatus period for the show, but it also coincides with the release of video game Invincible Vs. Now, when fans search for Invincible they’ll get more than just the show. The game will come up, too.

Invincible Vs' first DLC content expansion, titled "season 1", comes with two new characters (The Immortal and Universa), new cosmetics, endless arcade mode, balance and gameplay updates, and more. So far, the game has gotten better reviews than I expected. I enjoy the game, but the moves are easy to perform, which I assumed would negatively affect people’s experience. However, the simplicity of the Invincible Vs, on top of it staying true to the show and comic book, has made it a popular project. There’s also Evo weekend, also known as the biggest weekend when it comes fighting games, where Invincible Vs will crown the winner of the tournament with a replica of Conquest’s metal arm.

So, all in all, it makes sense to announce Invincible season 6 this summer. With a quiet year for the TV show itself but an interesting one when it comes to the whole Invincible franchise, this announcement has ensured that people will continue talking about Prime Video's yellow and blue superhero for some time to come. I wouldn’t be shocked if something else from the world of Invincible was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July (if Kirkman and the cast end up attending for a panel). Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out if that’s the case.
