You could say that The Batman - Part II has been a long time coming, but even that wouldn't capture just how long audiences have been waiting for the Robert Pattinson-led sequel. Matt Reeves' original Caped Crusader film was released in theaters in 2022, meaning that, by the time Part II arrives in theaters, it will have been a five year wait - the longest for any direct Batman sequel in history.

The film has maintained an overwhelming sense of mystery in those years since the original, with significant updates only coming little and often. The good news is that it's almost time for production to kick off in the UK, so we'll finally get some more regular reveals, rumors, and tidbits. And now, Pattinson himself is sharing the first of them, with a tease that brings music to our eyes.

Robert Pattinson says The Batman 2 is extraordinary, offers production update

Robert Pattinson is full of enthusiasm for The Batman - Part II. The star recently spoke to Deadline about the upcoming DC movie and, when asked what he can tease, about it, he revealed that the script is "extraordinary". And that's just the beginning of the exciting update as he was able to share unique insights into how the film is different to its 2022 predecessor:

“The script is extraordinary. I think it’s going to be a really, really, really special movie. And very, very different to… even from the last one. I was reading it going like, ‘Oh wow! Okay!’ It’s going to be interesting seeing it come out. It’s taking some big swings.”

Needless to say, the fans have responded extremely well to this update. For starters, it's the first significant update about the movie outside of casting announcements (which can't really offer much other than "cast in a mystery role" teases). It also alludes to the film's actual story - which is undoubtedly the biggest mystery about the movie thus far. Four years after the original, and we still don't know much about what kind of story the film will tell. Hearing that it's going to be quite different from the original is very exciting indeed.

Pattinson was also asked about whether the production had begun yet and he responded with: "No, a couple of months." While not a definitive production date it's the most solid timeframe we've heard yet, and it aligns with the multitude of rumors that suggested an April / May production start was on the cards.

See, even when they hear rumors and reports about the film, fans aren't entirely sure whether they should commit to the belief. The Batman - Part II has been delayed multiple times since it was officially confirmed by Warner Bros. Pictures / DC Studios, so that means that plans for production have shifted each time too. When it finally felt certain that the sequel would come out in October 2026, it was delayed one more time until October 2027.

It's not to say that there haven't been any updates over the past year. It's just that Pattinson's comments suggest that it's almost time for production to finally commence - which would, all being well, fix that planned October 2027 release date firmly in place. With production on the horizon, we have had a number of casting updates - all of which are pretty major in and of themselves.

The Batman - Part II has added two Marvel stars to its line-up, with Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson joining the film in major albeit undisclosed roles. Stan is reportedly playing infamous Btaman villain Two-Face, with the expectation that he'll be playing his human alter-ego, Harvey Dent, first. While Johansson's role is more of a mystery at this point, rumors suggest that she will either be playing Gilda Dent or Poison Ivy.

Meanwhile, Barry Keoghan is expected to reprise his role from the first film as The Joker, while Colin Farrell will return as Oz Cobb / The Penguin (fresh off his award-winning run in HBO spinoff series The Penguin). Moreover, the studio is reportedly attempting to cast the role of Harvey's father, Christopher Dent. Although they have been, as of yet, unsuccessful, reports say that the role has been offered to the likes of Daniel Craig, Robert DeNiro, Brad Pitt, and Stellan Skarsgård.

Taking all of that into account, not only does it sounds like The Batman - Part II is finally about to come to fruition but that it will be a truly special moment for DC fans all over the world. With production imminent and an extraordinary script, we have just one question: Is it October 2027 yet?!
