***This article contains SPOILERS from School Spirits season 3 episode 8.***
Season 3 of School Spirits may have been the most intriguing of the TV series so far. Instead of focusing solely on getting Simon out of the spirit realm, the tension increased when Dr. Deborah Hunter-Price showed up and said Split River High would be torn down. Now, if the school is torn down, not only will Simon be lost forever, but there is no telling what would happen to the other ghosts. To make it worse, later in the season, viewers learn that they turn into shells of themselves that are called the Forgotten.
In the last couple of episodes of the season, a lot is learned about Dr. Hunter-Price. Among them is the fact that, at some point, she was possessed by the spirit of the man who drowned kids in a church at Stillwater, Alfred Van Heidt. Now, in the body of Deb, he was going to destroy the school, even if it meant burning it down. Thankfully, with the help of Rhonda, Quinn, Mr. Martin, Charley, and Yuri, his plan failed.
It’s great that the Split River High School was saved, but if you’ve watched the show, you know School Spirits doesn’t just end. There’s always a cliffhanger, and season 3 wasn’t an exception to the rule, as two major events took place at the end of the episode. One of them is a good thing for the ghosts of Split River High. The second is something that could make life difficult for Maddie, Simon, Nicole, Xavier, Claire, and everyone they love.
Breaking the barrier
Thecharacters' main purpose of School Spirits season 3 was to prevent Split River High School from being burned down. It wasn't an easy task, and you can bet that it was made more difficult with each and every episode. But somehow, they pulled it off in the season 3 finale.
After the school was saved, Yuri steps into the street to take a shortcut to another part of the building. Instead of disappearing, however, he stayed in the street. Rhonda, Quinn, and Charley look over and realize that they may have broken the boundary that prevented them from leaving the school grounds.
Initially, spirits aren’t able to leave the grounds. When they try, they appear somewhere else on the property. Sadly, we don’t know if this is something that all of the ghosts of Split River High will be able to do. That’s a question for season 4.

Van Heidt’s revenge
Van Heidt (in Dr. Hunter-Price’s body) issued a terrifying warning to Maddie and Xavier, saying that if they got in his way, they’d regret it and he’d find everyone they love and “bury them so far below this world that they will forget what the sun looks like.” Soon after the villain's dramatic (and well-acted) speech, Simon wacks him with a fire extinguisher and saves his friends… for now.
At the very end of the episode, however, Maddie is home and greeted by her mother Sandra - who’s cleaning a knife (very ominous indeed). After Maddie leaves the scene, Sandra goes to close the curtains. As she gets closer to the window, the reflection shows us all that Van Heidt has possessed her body.
Yes, this appears to confirm that his plan to get revenge has already begun. We don't yet know the full extent of what that will look like but it's clear that he's more than willing to go through with his threats and make it personal. The question is: When did Van Heidt make the jump? That's a question for season 4!
Here's hoping that won't be too far away!
