Tom Holland has clarified that he wants to pass the Spider-Man mantle to another actor who will play Miles Morales in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is unclear when the character will appear in the MCU, but a recent rumor says that Marvel has decided which film will introduce him.
Insider MyTimeToShineHello reported that Miles Morales will make his long-awaited MCU debut in Spider-Man 5 and that Holland signed a "huge deal" with Sony. This news suggests that Miles will appear alongside Holland's Peter Parker in the MCU real soon.
First appearing in Marvel Comics’ Ultimate Universe in 2011, Miles took over as Spider-Man after Peter Parker’s death. The character has since become an iconic part of the webslinger’s world. Not only did he get his own video game by Insomniac, but Miles also became the lead of Sony’s animated Spider-Verse trilogy, boosting his popularity and public demand for his character to appear in the MCU.
Marvel has revealed plans for Miles Morales in the MCU
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told Watching Hollywood that Miles can’t appear in the MCU until after the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in 2027. Nevertheless, Feige said he plans to release a live-action Miles Morales movie somewhere down the line.
"We've been thinking and discussing more Spider-Man adventures, regardless of agreements or contracts," Feige would add in an interview with People. "My production partner, Amy Pascal, is already working on it, and we've had in-depth discussions about what the next two, three, four, and five Spider-Man movies might be about.”
While Miles has yet to appear in the MCU, the Spider-Man films have foreshadowed his debut through the character’s uncle, Aaron Davis, in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Likewise, Electro expressed hope that a Black Spider-Man exists somewhere in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Obviously, Tom Holland can't play Peter Parker forever. Though fans have repeatedly seen heroes like Steve Rogers and Thor for about 15 years, it feels like Holland could take his final bow as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man any day now. Still, it would make sense for Peter to appear alongside Miles in Spider-Man 5 and train him to be a superhero before Holland retires from the MCU.
Fans saw a similar teacher-apprentice dynamic between Peter and Miles in Into the Spider-Verse and Insomniac's Spider-Man video games. Should Miles appear in Spider-Man 5, Marvel and Sony could eventually wrap up the webslinger's new trilogy by having Miles fully take over as the MCU's webslinger.
Whether or not Miles makes his debut in Spider-Man 5, Marvel has established that he will appear sometime after Beyond the Spider-Verse. Since the MCU has released its Spider-Man movies a couple of years apart, fans could see a live-action Miles on the big screen as early as 2028, two years after Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
