There was a time when it felt like the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer had disintegrated into thin air, as if Thanos snapped his fingers with the sole purpose of messing with Marvel fans. But after months of speculation, theory crafting, leaks, and even 23 clips from the movie's own trailer, our first proper look at the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is finally here. New York spent half a decade in peace, but now the web-headed menace is back, and he's terrorizing citizens once more (which couldn't make us any happier).

Spider-Man: Brand New Day may be a street-level adventure, but it has the scope of an epic superhero crossover—an idea only reinforced by the first official trailer. We finally have our first look at some of the movie's multiple antagonists, as well as some of the anti-heroes who will aid the wall-crawler in his upcoming adventure. Many MCU characters are set to come together in what's perhaps one of the biggest superhero movies of the year, second only to Avengers: Doomsday. There's a lot to break down from just two minutes of footage, so without further ado, here's our very first look at Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer unveils an epic MCU crossover

Despite not being previously confirmed by Marvel itself, it was an open secret that Peter Parker wouldn't get to save New York on his own in his upcoming adventure. For months, it was reported that the Punisher would appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with set pictures doubling down on this idea. But at long last, we got a glimpse of Frank Castle in action, trying to "save Peter's life". While the trailer suggests the two MCU icons will be on amicable terms, it will be interesting to see whether their different ideologies will lead to some not-so-friendly encounters. After all, that's exactly what happened between Matt Murdock and the Punisher during the events of Netflix's Daredevil.

Not too long ago, Mark Ruffalo was denying any involvement in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. But lo and behold, Bruce Banner appears in the trailer, which is sure to shock no one. The footage implies that the beloved Avenger is a professor at Peter Parker's college, and that the superpowered teenager will seek his aid. Rumor has it that Bruce's knowledge of radiation could help Peter control his superpowers. Who knows? Maybe he was the one to create the radioactive spider that bit the wall-crawler in the first place.

Interestingly, it appears Peter Parker will struggle to control his superpowers, slightly reminiscent of the plot in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2. Unlike Tobey Maguire's movie, however, it appears that Peter's abilities will now evolve instead of disappearing. There's a shot in the trailer where we see Peter coming out of a web cocoon, and shooting a web without the need of web-shooters. While it is unknown why Spidey's powers are changing, this plot thread is likely the reason why Bruce Banner will appear in the movie and attempt to use his knowledge of radiation to help the wall-crawler.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will attempt to be bigger and better than previous Spidey movies in many ways, including the villain department. Many different antagonists are set to appear in the upcoming MCU project, and the trailer finally gave us a glimpse at some of them. Boomerang will make his live-action debut, as revealed by the slow-motion shot of him throwing his... well, boomerangs, at Spidey. There's also a blink-and-you-miss-it moment when the web-slinger is seen fighting multiple red ninjas, which, if rumors are to be believed, are members of the criminal organization known as The Hand. While Mac Gargan's Scorpion was among the few villains previously confirmed to appear in the film (along with Marvin Jones III's Tombstone), it's nice to see the character in action once more after his introduction nearly nine years ago in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears to be a fast-paced, action-packed adventure that has many nods to the wider MCU. While there are still some questions that remain unanswered for the time being, it's great to finally get a proper look at what's to come. The footage's release could indicate that Sony will officially kick-start the marketing campaign for its upcoming movie, meaning even more surprises could be revealed in the following weeks.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on Jul. 31, 2026.
