As expected, the previous episode of Star Trek: Stafleet Academy had a somber beginning. The crew was still dealing with the devastation caused by Nus Braka and the Furie in the sixth episode, and none more than Caleb and Captain Nahla Ake.

Nahla felt like she failed her students and put them in harm's way. Meanwhile, Caleb was hurting because his partner, Tarima, sacrificed her well-being to save the day. Tarima was the first person Caleb let get close to him, and now she’s in a coma. On top of that, it’s All-Worlds Day, and it’s doubtful anyone feels like celebrating. Thankfully, some happiness came their way.

What appeared to be the abduction of Darem was really a ceremonial act leading to his wedding. Sadly, Jay-Den Kraag thought his friend was being kidnapped. In the end, Jay-Den’s attempt to save his friend from violence turned into Jay-Den rescuing Darem from a life he wasn’t destined for.

Back at Starfleet Academy, Caleb and Genesis bond and share things with each other that they normally wouldn't. This wouldn’t have happened if both of them decided to go with the original plans of leaving the campus. Now, they share a friendship that will last a lifetime. However, don't be shocked if this turns into something else later in the series.

What to expect from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy episode 8

The official synopsis for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy episode 8 says: “A visiting instructor forces the cadets to face the emotional realities of serving in Starfleet.” The trauma the cadets and staff are dealing with had to be addressed, and it sounds like it's happening in this one. And, according to various websites, it will be Star Trek: Discovery's Sylvia Tilly (with Mary Wiseman reprising the role) who helps everyone address the reality of being a member of Starfleet.

As we head closer to the end of the season, it’s important to remember that Caleb is still looking for his mother. It also shouldn’t be lost on viewers that he and Captain Ake briefly addressed not pressing Nus Braka for information. I fully expect new details about Caleb’s mother to be mentioned in “The Life of the Stars”. It would make sense since next week is the penultimate episode, and nothing has been said about her whereabouts in weeks.
