One of Star Wars' greatest warriors has made his long-awaited return to TV screens. The infamous villain Darth Maul is fronting brand new Disney Plus series Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, which has already taken the world by storm. And, quite frankly, it's no surprise.

Maul has long been one of the Lucasfilm franchise's beloved - and yet underappreciated - characters, with a desire from fans to see more of lightsaber-wielding antagonist beyond his starring role in 2001's Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. In the new animated series, those desires come to fruition. And, as the series debuted in the No. 1 spot in multiple countries on the platform's daily Top 10 chart. it's safe to say fans were loving what they were watching.

What to expect from Maul – Shadow Lord episodes 3 and 4

The first two episodes of Maul made it clear that the crime boss has one plan on his mind: Revenge. He obtained that right out of the gate by having two people who turned on him, Nico Deemis and Looti Vario, turn on each other, violating their peace treaty on Janix. Vario surprised even Maul when he killed Deemis, and that quickly made him the villain's main target.

Maul used Vario's knowledge to attack a Pyke Syndicate transport, which allowed him to do even more damage. While it's unclear he plans on letting Vario go, he has plans for him. And he's not the only one.

Maul also has his eye on former Jedi Padawan Devon Izara, who he hopes to have become his next apprentice. Izara has no intention of listening to him, but she has shown us that at least some of what Maul is saying is correct. The closing moments of the second episode saw her successfully use the force to break from the containment cell Maul and his crime syndicate had placed her in. But we all know that this is exactly what Maul wanted her to do, so where does that leave the pair?

With that in mind, the next two episodes of Shadow Lord could go one of two ways. Izara will face off against Maul in an attempt to escape, or the Shadow Lord himself will allow her to escape, having faith that she will return. As evil as he can be, his instincts about her capabilities have yet to be wrong. And so, this intriguing dynamic between the pair will certainly continue into the next installments.
