What Jon Favreau accomplished with The Mandalorian can't be summed up in a few words. I mean, we shouldn't be surprised - this is the man responsible for kicking off the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man, so we should have expected some major things from him when it came to Star Wars. That's what we got when the Disney Plus series premiered back in 2019.
Arriving on the same day that the streamer went live, The Mandalorian quickly became one of the biggest shows in the world - or, should we say galaxy? - successfully bringing the classic Lucasfilm movie franchise to the small screen. There was no going back for Star Wars or series star Pedro Pascal, who became an overnight sensation (if he already wasn't one after his role on Game of Thrones). And now Mando is heading to the big screen in next year's The Mandalorian and Grogu, bringing his lovable little green buddy with him.
Favreau, on the other hand, now turns his attention to launching a new Disney Plus show, which will reunite him with one of the fan-favorite stars of the small screen's Star Wars stories.
Jon Favreau's new Disney Plus series recruits Star Wars fan-favorite
Jon Favreau is set to reunite with a beloved actor from the Star Wars franchise for his new Disney Plus series. Variety reports that Amy Sedaris has joined the cast of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, playing the role of Taylor - the mother of Ryder Allen's character on the show.
A veteran performer, Sedaris is undoubtedly best known to Star Wars fans for her role as the kind and hilarious Peli Motto in The Mandalorian - a role which she played during appearances in all three seasons of the show and reprised in spinoff series The Book of Boba Fett. Peli is undoubtedly one of the show's most beloved characters as she quickly proved to be a reliable ally for Din Djarin, a.k.a. The Mandalorian himself, and got on extremely well with Grogu. It's not yet clear if the character will return for the upcoming feature film The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Sedaris has had a legendary career in Hollywood productions and theater, and she is also a frequent collaborator of Favreau's as the pair have previously worked together on 2014's Chef and 2019's The Lion King. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit will be their next reunion after the Star Wars shows and it's set to focus on the iconic character of Oswald, who was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks in 1927. Originally owned by Disney, Oswald's rights were taken over by Universal in 1928, leading to Disney creating Mickey Mouse. Yes, that Mickey Mouse.
Although the studio hasn't been too forthcoming about the plot details of the upcoming Disney Plus show, it is known that it will be a live-action / animation hybrid (think Mary Poppins!). And, as we've seen many times before, that can be Disney's speciality.
As for The Mandalorian, the future of the show remains up in the air as the characters prepare for their cinematic debut. Although hopes are high for The Mandalorian and Grogu, audiences aren't particularly thrilled that the show may have to end to allow that to happen - especially as season 3 wasn't billed as a final season.
We'll have to wait and see how that plays out, both it would be awesome if Sedaris were able to pop up in a cameo appearance as the beloved Peli Motto in the film.
