Star Wars: Visions has been one of the most critically adored projects in the Star Wars universe this decade. It may not bring in viewership numbers on par with The Clone Wars or The Bad Batch, but the anime-styled show has definitely found an audience over its three seasons. Established as an anthology series, Visions consisted of strictly standalone tales for its first two volumes.

With the release of its third run in 2025, Visions started to expand on some of its earlier stories. The very first Visions chapter was a black and white samurai homage called “The Duel” that continued in season 3 with “The Duel: Payback." Then, “The Village Bride” from Visions' rookie season connects to last year’s “The Lost Ones." The most pertinent sequential segments were “The Ninth Jedi” and “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope," which will now branch out into its own series.

The original “Ninth Jedi” charts Juro’s plan to reignite a Jedi Order by gifting lightsabers to seven Jedi. Zhima crafts the weapons, but is seized by adversaries while his force-sensitive daughter, Kara, escapes to deliver the sabers. Most of the recruits turn out to be Sith imposters aiming to wipe out the Jedi Order.

Even after Juro, Kara, and a few other Jedi defeat the Sith, “The Ninth Jedi” is left open since Zhima remains captured under Sith rule. Four heroes set off on a mission that is then picked up in “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope." Kara is separated from her team, and she tries to help a droid reconnect with his master. Instead of a direct narrative path, the plot takes a detour, leaving Kara to explore a more personal journey, but eventually the same Jedi hunters that took her father come for Kara.

The ending of “Child of Hope” served as confirmation that more Star Wars anime would be coming to Disney Plus. Kara reunited with her team as she vowed to find her father, with a final title card reading “to be continued…" That brings us to the new show, a full-sized follow-up to resume Kara's journey. Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi.

The official series title is a bit of a mouthful, but it likely signifies that The Ninth Jedi is merely the first of a planned set of volumes that will emerge out of the core Star Wars: Visions anthology. The Ninth Jedi spinoff is scheduled to hit Disney Plus on August 5. Just like with Star Wars: Visions' three seasons, the entire run will drop simultaneously, so all eight chapters of The Ninth Jedi will be available to watch right away.
