Homelander has always been a bit off his rocker, but it’s getting worse in the final season of The Boys. After learning that he won’t live forever, he starts to question everything that he is and has done. Then, Madelyn Stillwell appeared to him as an angel and claimed that he is the Second Coming. Of course, he believes this and goes about trying to find V1 so he can become immortal.
At the end of the previous episode, Ryan confronted his father about whether or not his mother consented on the night that he was conceived. Homelander claimed she did, but his son didn't believe him, which leads to a fight in which Ryan gets brutally beaten (like when Omni-Man fights Mark in Invincible).
The most worrisome part of this episode was the very end. Stan Edgar arrived back to Vought International to be greeted by a hug from Homelander, who claimed they have so much to discuss. With Stan Edgar by his side, the world’s most powerful and unhinged supe is one step away from immortality. Luckily, the Boys have a lead on where the last vile of V1 may be.

What to expect in The Boys season 5 episode 4
In the trailer above, it looks like Soldier Boy is assisting Homelander on his quest for Immortality. At the beginning of the previous episode, I wouldn’t have believed that this was even possible. But the conversation he had with Firecracker may have changed his mind. Instead of hating him, Soldier Boy may feel bad for him and take the opportunity to help his son be less, well, creepy. Sadly, that's not possible, and Homelander will eventually betray him and quite possibly kill Soldier Boy once he's immortal. It's just who Homelander is.
We should also pay close attention to all of Stan Edgar’s actions. During his talk with Mother's Milk., Edgar had been mentioning that everyone has a role to play in the game of life. As the conversation continued, M.M. realized that everything Edgar was doing is to allow him to run Vought International again. That means that all of Edgar’s moves will be for a reason, and a lot of them will be subtle and won't be revealed until his goals are achieved.
With this episode, we reach the halfway point of The Boys' final season. And that means that it can only get wilder from here as the final few episodes arrive each week.
