if someone had told you in 2010 that The Walking Dead Universe would still be carrying on in 2024 (and through to 2025), you might not have believed them. Nobody would blame you for that, because even with the franchise's popularity at the time, long-running science fiction or fantasy shows weren't as regular a thing back then (and even then, we're talking 14 years ago). But the franchise has withstood the test of time, as the main show ran for 11 seasons and produced two spinoffs throughout that run.

The franchise now lives on in the form of three spinoffs, two of which are still ongoing. The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live was a standalone miniseries that wrapped up the arcs of Rick Grimes and Michonne, while both Daryl Dixon, and Dead City are ongoing shows that were renewed for new seasons after their debut outings.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 ("The Book of Carol") has been entertaining audiences over the past five weeks and now it's bowing out with an epic finale. This season has been full of huge moments that have left fans in awe, and it's sure to carry on into the finale.

Yes, that means that Daryl Dixon will be off air for sometime now, but the good news is that we won't have to wait too long for more from the TWD Universe.

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 is coming in Spring 2025

The Walking Dead: Dead City is on its way back to screens as the second season is set to premiere on both AMC and AMC+ in spring 2025. Yes, that means Maggie and Negan will be back for another adventure in the Big Apple early next year, and after the way that the first season ended, you can bet that audiences are in need of answers.

The announcement came at New York Comic-Con (via Variety), and it was the news that TWD Universe fans were waiting for. Prior to this, all they knew was that the sophomore outing of the series would be heading back to screens in 2025, so there was an outside possibility of it coming later in the year (especially as it has been a longer wait for that already), so the fact that it will be back sooner rather than later is undoubtedly music to the ears of its devoted fans.

Dead City was actually the first of the new TWD spinoffs to air/stream after the end of the original series, premiering on AMC and AMC+ in June 2023. It had been planned for earlier that year but it was delayed to the summer. When it did premiere, however, it achieved record numbers for the AMC+ service, which led to a quick renewal (along with fellow TWD spinoff The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon). It was actually pipped in its return to screens by Daryl Dixon as that show filmed its first and second seasons back-to-back (which is why that aired prior to Dead City's second season).

When we last saw Maggie and Negan, things were pretty tense. After convincing Negan to come to New York City to help her rescue her son Hershel, Maggie allowed him to be handed over to The Croat to become Manhattan's new ruler (much like he used to be with The Saviors). But, upon her return, she began to question her actions and - dare we say it - felt guilty about the fate that had befallen her enemy.

With the second season on the horizon, it looks like Maggie is indeed going to return to the city in a bid to save Negan from the new life he has reluctantly found himself living. But will it be easy to get him back, or will the dark days of Negan and Lucille make a comeback?

To make things even more exciting for fans of the franchise, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 will premiere next year, too. Is it 2025, yet?
