The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 has a surprising release schedule

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2's release on Sunday nights? Not unusual at all. The amount of episodes this time around? Pretty unexpected.

Maggie and Negan are back in another adventure that has once again taken them to their new stomping grounds of New York City. The Walking Dead's most unlikely duo returned in the second season premiere of their own spinoff series Dead City, which promised to take the feuding pair's story in some unexpected - and yet predictably violent - new directions.

Maggie has returned to Manhattan along with the New Babylon Federation, who are seeking to overthrow The Croat and The Dama to harness their methane in a bid to bring the world back from the brink. Negan never left, as the villainous pair kept him prisoner in the hopes of making him their new performative leader.

There are no doubt going to be more twists and turns throughout Dead City's second season, and here's when you can tune into new episodes.

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 release schedule confirms longer run

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 will air new episodes on Sundays, starting with the premiere on May 4. Each episode will air on AMC at 9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT, as per usual. If you can't wait that long, each episode will also be available to stream on AMC+ on Sunday mornings, meaning that you don't have to wait until its linear premiere in the evening if you'd prefer to watch it right away.

That much has become a certainty when watching The Walking Dead shows. The surprise is the amount of episodes that will air throughout Dead City season 2's run. Check out the release schedule below:

As we can see from the release schedule for the full season, Dead City's sophomore outing will have two more episodes than its predecessor, running for a total of eight episodes. It's pretty awesome considering that six episodes has become the norm for the new Walking Dead spinoffs and it suggests that there will be some major developments going down in the second season.

Something else that confirms as much is the fact that critics who screened the season were seemingly only granted the first six episodes of the season, suggesting that some major things will go down in the last two episodes. Could this suggest that Dead City will end its run with season 2? We'll have to wait and see.

Irrespective of what goes down during The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, we know that there will be more episodes to enjoy, and that all of them will air on Sunday nights between May 4 and June 22.

The story of the TWD Universe will then continue on in the fall when The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 arrives on screens (and it promises to do something that the franchise has never before done). We can't wait for that.
