You don't even have to be a Marvel fan to know that there are two major Avengers movies on the horizon. Whenever the Avengers reunite on the silver screen, it's a game-changing event that will bring out crowds of people - many of whom don't regularly keep up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe but still feel like they need to witness the must-see events in these films. That's the power of the MCU, and the power of the Avengers, for you.
The titular team of superheroes will reunite for their fifth and sixth movies when Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars arrives in movie theaters in 2026 and 2027, respectively. But these two promise to be even more larger than life than their four predecessors, as they are expected to bring back familiar faces from both the MCU and the multiverse in general, perhaps resulting in an incredibly large movie cast for both films.
However, there is one MCU hero that fans shouldn't be expecting to see appear in the upcoming movies.
Moon Knight not expected to appear in upcoming Avengers movies
According to reliable Marvel insider Alex Perez, Moon Knight will not be appearing in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. In the scooper's recent Q&A with fans via The Cosmic Circus, they responded to a number of questions about the character's return and when we can expect it, throwing out options such as the long-rumored Midnight Sons movie or even Daredevil: Born Again, but that the return is "Not in the Avengers films, though".
On paper, the idea of Moon Knight not appearing in either of the upcoming Avengers movies doesn't seem that too out-of-the-ordinary considering the character has remained separate from the rest of the franchise up to this point (even though the series is set in the MCU), but it will no doubt be deflating for fans who were hoping to see Oscar Isaac reprise the role in the very near-future.
Isaac headlined the Disney Plus series Moon Knight in 2022, portraying Marc Spector and his alternate personalities Steven Grant and Jake Lockley, serving as the avatar for Khonshu, an ancient Egyptian Moon God who dispenses out judgement on the guilty and protects the innocent. His performance was met with acclaim, with rumors of a second season starting soon after the series concluded. However, there have been no further updates about if that's even still on the table.
What's most interesting is that this apparent confirmation that Isaac won't be reprising the role in either of the upcoming Avengers movies comes just days after Marvel's Head of Streaming, Animation, and Television Brad Winderbaum confirmed that there are plans for the character of Moon Knight but that it likely won't be in a second season of the Disney Plus series. Clearly, those plans for the character don't involve Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
As for when Moon Knight might return, the likely options at this point are the aforementioned second season of Daredevil: Born Again (because the character will apparently be spending some time in New York City in the near-future) or Midnight Sons. The latter is probably the most likely as a Midnight Sons project has been rumored to be in development for some time now, with Moon Knight expected to play a major role in it.
As with all Marvel rumors, it's important to take this one with a pinch of salt until otherwise confirmed by the studio itself, but it's looking increasingly likely that it will be some time before we see the Fist of Khonshu in the MCU again. The good news is that it will happen at some point.
